I got the impression that They're going to drink Starbucks and hang out, not go do anything. Agawa offering to take him home was probably just that with no ulterior motive. It's probably expecting to much but I kinda hoped they would have talked him out of it. Seemed like they both were going to for moments but I guess Kume thought Agawa was going to steal him.
My prediction is that this new character is probably one of Agawa's favorite sex friends (like her childhood friend Yuki), and like Yuki in the OG manga, will probably be one of the main romantic rivals for Gotou. He even got larger montage panels than Yuki, which is really interesting since Takeda Super hasn't really explored Agawa's relationship with Yuki in this series just yet. (Though perhaps he doesn't intend to, since the OG series has Yuki as the main rival, and Takeda Super might want to switch things up for this series.)
It's possible that he's Agawa's middle school crush, who Shiina slept with in front of Agawa (Ch.29 p.11 and Vol. 4's revised Ch.31 p.7). If so, he and Agawa probably have a much more complicated past together than her other sex friends, and Agawa might still harbor some romantic feelings for him (and he might feel similarly for her as well).
To go even further, I think the new guy could be a toxic "ex-boyfriend" type who, like Yuki and Gotou, might want to have Agawa all to himself. Agawa might both hate his guts and also be extremely sexually attracted to him, which could lead to a bunch of erotic scenarios through manipulation and coersion.
Not saying you're wrong anywhere in particular, but I do believe you're putting far more thought into this than the author is. From my point of view, it's just an endless stream of progress stalling, blue-balling, and jealousy baiting with respect to Agawa and Gotou. I get it's not the same story it was before the rewrite, but this thing is hardly even about the main two characters, it's basically just Gotou fucking the everloving shit out of everyone. I'd love to finally see some exploration of where their relationship stands and is possibly heading, Agawa seems to be showing the type of behavior a girl would have when they actually like a guy and don't want to just sleep with them, but as of right now Gotou is still being a total dipshit so I don't see that going anywhere. I understand the author is being allowed to write what he wants, I think there needs to be someone reining him in just a bit to keep things rolling. To me it feels like misterious guy seems more related to Gotou, seeing that Gotou saying that strabuks was on him seem to catch mysterious guys attention, I been thinking about the whole "mystery" of Gotou's reason for abandoning baseball so maybe it will be relevant. (Also if he is related to Gotou's past maybe we will get Akito development).
tbh I think the Gotou jealous plot has been over used and it's kinda pointless, like Inukai and Erika had entire arcs to them, and Agawa has left Gotou for Yuki and another sexfriend that Shige recomended, I do understand that this is supposed to be an NTR rom-com but honestly it has been really over used. And to me its pointless because Agawa has said that there are sexfriend that are better than Gotou, that she preffers girls and that Erika and her are/were a thing. We know that it is false, but as far as I can tell Gotou doesn't know this, so adding another one into the mix really doesn't change the status quo, at least from Gotou's perpective. I also have the feeling that Agawa's "Yes, actually no jk" could come to bite her in the ass later.
I guess Agawa's first crush could be introduced, but if anything I wish it would be used as a way for Agawa to move on. As for him being a "toxic ex" I can see that but happening, however I feel that role could be filled by Yuki, even in the OG story he was a really basic character, so if Takeda wanted to expand on him he definety can without the need to create and entire new character. There is also the chance that, maybe Agawa's crush will stay as just backgroud lore for Agawa.
But honestly this is me on copium, since we finaly got our main couple back after like 60+ chapter, just for Takeda to pull another "Rival" it feels like a kick in the nuts, to me Gotou and Agawa already have a shit ton of baggage not only on them as people but also in their relationship, I said it before the ship hasn't sailed and it already has a bunch of wholes and its listing and we are already on chapter 116. I would rather have them sort out those issues for the rest of the manga.
Any ways rant over as always thanks @Chekov for the tl.
I actually don't think Shiina is a flat character at all, but she's underexplored because ultimately she's a just side character. She represents the ideal "slut" who can separate love from lust and pursue her own hedonic tendencies without regrets. Shiina's casual approach towards sex is what Agawa strives for, but, in reality, Agawa is much more of a romantic than she lets on (which is why we saw Agawa slip up and show Gotou her vulnerable side in Ch.109, one of the most important chapters so far). This is something that in that retconned group of chapters that Takeda Super seemed to want to revisit based on the little authors notes of that volume, and I thought, while reading through all of them the other day, it did leave Shiina flat without it. Her uninhibited whimsy (even compared to her sister and Shige and the other sluts of the school) is part of her overarching joke, so, it's fine, but to come back and add this extra context now would probably work better than that version of chapter 31.
Agawa's sex life hasn't been relevant recently because Takeda Super is trying to bulk up this series by giving the other characters their time to shine. If Takeda Super went all out on Agawa's storyline, this series would probably be over at this point lol. Which I'd personally be fine with, since I love Agawa and want to see how far she and Gotou will go (I still believe in their true happy ending). On the other hand, I also really enjoy the various twists and turns this series has taken (ex. Shigemi as a new sex friend for Gotou, her playing Cupid for both him and Agawa, as well as Agawa's romantic feelings for Gotou gradually growing). So he could be a more proper love rival, to where it's more than just random jealousy like he's had with other sex friends. Like another boy that Agawa likes the way she likes Gotou but is held in this liminal space of sex friend or maybe something even more complex like you suggest, which isn't something we've seen before, since Agawa's sex life, while pivotal to the premise, has not been that story relevant recently, it's just been something that happened in the background.
Kiyomi is the weakest heroine by far, but her arc has created tension that led to Shigemi and Agawa growing closer to Gotou. This manga is one of my all-time favs, but it's pacing is one of the few areas that I'd criticize Takeda Super for. Even so, the pacing isn't so bad since Kiyomi's arc consists of a ton of sex scenes, which go by extremely fast when rereading them. The joke overstayed it's welcome a bit, but I think it wasn't too long since I just started reading it on 114, I didn't have to live with that for like 6 months lol.
I'm not sure where you read that "Agawa has said that there are sexfriend that are better than Gotou". Even if that were the case, the current Gotou, with his non-fuckboy attitude and improved sex skills, is probably one of Agawa's current favorites (if not her current #1) to have sex with, considering Agawa's growing romantic feelings for Gotou.tbh I think the Gotou jealous plot has been over used and it's kinda pointless, like Inukai and Erika had entire arcs to them, and Agawa has left Gotou for Yuki and another sexfriend that Shige recomended, I do understand that this is supposed to be an NTR rom-com but honestly it has been really over used. I also want to see Gotou and Agawa deal with their various issues, both their own as well as the issues between them. I do want to mention that both Gotou and Agawa are still growing as characters despite not having that many direct interactions recently (even if their growth isn't always purely positive). Not really, the little dumbass is going to kill himself. lolThey're going to kill the boy.
What i meant is that at the end of the Akito arc, Agawa leaves with some dude and tells Gotou that he has more stamina than him, just to show us some chapters later that wasn't the case. I kinda generalised a bit whit that statement lmao.I'm not sure where you read that "Agawa has said that there are sexfriend that are better than Gotou". Even if that were the case, the current Gotou, with his non-fuckboy attitude and improved sex skills, is probably one of Agawa's current favorites (if not her current #1) to have sex with, considering Agawa's growing romantic feelings for Gotou.
Ok, that sounds good, tbh i get any character development, but what i meant is that in practical effects Gotou already though that Agawa was serious with someone, so introducing another one wouldn't change anything, I also think that Agawa could be in a similar situation with Shige and until recently kiyomi.I don't think making Gotou jealous would be the only point of introducing a proper new love rival, as doing so could lead to a deeper exploration of Agawa's past. Also, Inukai was never a serious love rival to Gotou (as his main goal was just to cum inside Agawa), nor was Erika (as she was just a small distraction that allowed Agawa to temporarily avoid confronting her feelings for Gotou). A serious love rival to Gotou is still unexplored space for this series, so I'm excited for this new character's introduction.
I don't want Agawa an Gotou to hook up immediately but I feel like they have enough half-truths and missundertanding between the two, and also a lot of things that they need to move on/grow from as individuals to keep the manga running for a while. And honestly, you and me both man, maybe it isn't one of my favorite mangas but i am entertained and that is what counts at the end of the day.I also want to see Gotou and Agawa deal with their various issues, both their own as well as the issues between them. I do want to mention that both Gotou and Agawa are still growing as characters despite not having that many direct interactions recently (even if their growth isn't always purely positive).
The relationship between these two is the core of this manga (despite the recent copium with Shigemi), and I'm eagerly waiting for the day when we reach the final arc with Gotou and Agawa. That said, I think Takeda Super has other plans to extend the series (which I honestly don't mind, it's been fun so far), and that us readers will have to wait for a long time before that day comes.
This is a better way to phrase it. Flat feels more like an insult, and I didn't mean it that way, I like the joke of Shiina, I think she's very funny, but she is underexplored and hasn't had a chance to get much characterization beyond what she's introduced as, which isn't bad, she plays her role of funny-man well.I actually don't think Shiina is a flat character at all, but she's underexplored because ultimately she's a just side character.
