I get your point. However, at the same time, rewriting Gotou to be such a horny bastard that he has no impulse control already proves that the author has no respect for the characters' agency. Especially when the story put heavy emphasis on the insecurity complex of Agawa.
I wish the author went on an hiatus to figure out the story, I know he already did a couple of times, but doesn't seem like it helped, there have been chapters that felt drawn just to take time, where nothing was accomplished, like a kid trying to pad out his essay or a man child trying to appeal to SEO adding pointless bits to his wordpress articles.
Who are these characters? What are their limits? Is like.....you can be the quirky guy who picked up 10 different instruments and sports but at the end of the day, you risk being large as an ocean and deep as a puddle, you have to stick to something, for your identity, to find something you love, even the most dumb story is saying something consciously or unconsciously and the author has to decide whether he is capable of taking the wheel and driving somewhere he believes in.
Otherwise is akin to using AI Dungeon and the reason I stopped using it, all of sudden bring the story somewhere else, ignoring the characters that had been established, is funny for a quick laugh but it means an hollow story at the end.
