His words speak of his conviction, he doesn't boast about his own skill, even though he could given how strong he is, and his system of beliefs is firm. He's a bit crazy, sure, but can't blame him too much - so far nothing has disproved his opinion on how personal strength relates to strength of one's faith.

Tbf, he's rightfully to be upset from his perspective. This arc was building up with the concept of strong faith = bless with holy power. So, for someone, who is so unqualified in faith department, claims to be blessed would be angry.
