The replaced priest with one arm. He's called Nankobo Tenkai, a famous buddhist monk back in the Sengoku era and served diligently as an advisor to the Tokugawa Shogunate. Maybe he's most famous that in most Japanese fiction he's in, he's actually Akechi Mitsuhide after he was presumably killed in his battle against Toyotomi Hideyoshi in Mount Tenno.
I wonder if this is also the case here. The spirit of Akechi Mitsuhide taking over the bodies of monks and priests, playing out his role as the evil advisor to.. Whoever leads the Replaced.

It also occurs to me that Oota Taneko, the deputy of the Replaced, is also someone of some small historical note. Could it be, and I am simply theorising here, that the leader of the Replaced is someone who's known to Abe no Seimei? Maybe someone who's well known to be an enemy of Seimei?
Could it be that the leader of the Replaced and the one orchestrating the birth of Kubo is none other than Ashiya Douman or Douma Hoshi?

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen an umbilical cord mentioned in a manga, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, and all in the past week or so.

I presume at this point we are at the last Grand Arc. Don't really see any major plot device left outside of a "Tournament Arc"
It's 'Pokemon with Horror Story Ghosts', by that very fact the author could keep it going for 1000 chapters, Conan style.

Noooo not a flashback arc, those are always the worst... they always just end up exactly where we start - we know how it has to end, so there's no stakes, no growth, no progression, just a long boring slog to get back to the present...

it might not be an entire arc, could even just be one chapter where she explains who or what she learned these things from

So Ai join as permanent roster, huh
And poor the second grandson... We though you're a betrayer but you get replaced by the Power-obssesion grandpa instead

Interesting that we are going for a flashback arc now. I didn't think it was really necessary, but I also always wondered why it looked like Yayoi was the only one who knew all that stuff compared to the other "pro" exorcists/mediums we encountered. I'm sure casualities would be greatly reduced if they at least knew the doll trick to redirect damage.

Anyway author deserves a good break, hope they can keep the quality work afterwards. Also still praying for a S2 anime.

All the other flashbacks we have gotten from the spirits Yayoi has fought and/or captured have only been contained to one chapter. Yayoi's flashback should follow the same trend, hopefully.

:haa: :haa: so, the happy ending of the previous chapter all got reversed huh. None the wiser, again.

Wait so the sergeant didn't pass on after the last fight? Damn, I thought he'd finally get to rest in peace

Thank you so much for the update!
I don't mind Sensei take a break for research purpose. I hope they don't get sick or anything.

The thing haunting him is too powerful that even Taisai didn't want to deal with it during their fight. They probably will need a mini arc to get rid of it for good.

I feel like the mangaka suddenly changed his mind about the old guy stuff because there's no way we suddenly went from 'Seimei was here dealing with the old guy getting his karmic backlash' to 'Old guy actually took over his grandson and is in contact with the replaced' naturally.
Well tbf, it was already implied the previous chapter that there was something wrong with the 2nd son, but I see where you're coming from. It felt unnatural to me as well.

Team Yayoi still haven't visited any SS ranked or above haunted spots yet (even though they've already fought spirits of that lvl). I can't imagine the author introduced those spots and hyped them up to just forget about them midway. We'll most likely be going to those spots as well, maybe after Kubo has been born properly.

Oh thank god she's 9, and now so much more mature for this next arc. 8 years old was just pushing it.
