I'm guessing the whole point of these games is to basically strengthen the inhabitants of a world against other invaders. Hence why that woman mentioned the whole "foreign enemies" thing and it explains why we're seeing all these non-human entities around like those Gorilla monsters or the Oni. The only question now is who's pulling the strings behind all this.

And given all the talk about the "Alpha" and the way the game is structured, our good GM trying to forge a single consciousness of the D-Game players, for it, and from it.
The (crazy) idea that every player will use free will to unite behind the cause, unilateralism to become strong behind one strong man.
...which I think is on the way to backfire, badly and soon. Things are only gonna get far far worse before they get better

Since the title is Darwin's game, the whole plot might be about different strains of humanity fighting for supremacy.
