When you split the party and the DM has to take time to talk about "what's happening over here."Was moving in an kind of interesting direction, the took a lame turn 😞
Classic "I don't know how to progress the story, better mind control / corrupt / posses someone"
Fucking creatively bankrupt mangaka always
I mean, what sucks is that it was truly fine before the random floating manifestation of negativity. The story didn't have to reinvent the wheel or crack open a psychology book to please grad students. The guy being a royal brat that lost his way due to the pressures while also not being scolded was enough. The teacher actually being incredibly skilled and capable of redirecting that frustration was enough. This chapter literally could've ended at them going to sleep and leave it ambiguous about how difficult and long of a process it actually is to make steady personal improvements of one's own character. Instead there was an active decision to make the most self defeating choice (because this inherently takes agency away from characters which no writer should want).Well TBF... there aren't exactly many "original" ideals about kids in puberty transitioning to adulthood. Enabled asshole kids will likely grow up to be enabled asshole adults... until they hit someone or something they can't be enabled through.
How else is one supposed to fix problematic children as an adult in anime/manga?
So possession by demon isn't original, but hardly the worst cliche (IMO) for problematic kids in a fantasy setting.
- Through compassion and patience! (Ha, this isn't that kind of manga).
- Through their nakamas/friends (prince dumba** said no).
- Getting their asses kicked or scared straight to the point that they learn to be better (GTO style).
Unless someone becomes a psychology expert and wants to explain why some kids grow up to be problematic adults because they have inadequate copium supplies or poor coping mechanisms.
