As for the dude, I don't think he's into her or has any ulterior motives... Yet, cause he's definitely falling for her soon, after they geek out over stuff together for a while.

@Lilisionnach Yeah, I was getting some strong Harada-kun vibes off of otaku-boy in the past couple of chapters.

Wait a minute, is this manga actually Girl Friends? A normally shy MC who runs into a gyaru, gets a makeover, including a short haircut, now there's a gaggle of chick friends, and the two MC's are in a huge will they/won't they plotline.

Sure some of the story beats and personalities are different, but if the gyaru confesses at a heart-stone, I'm setting Milk Morinaga on the author with a katana.

@WhereTheYuriAt I love that picture so much. It instantly turned my opinion of the character around.

@datanono: There are some strong similarities, yeah. There's even a sort-of boyfriend plot interest to drive the jealousy in the gyaru character. I think I liked Girl Friends more as a whole so far, if only because it was a bit less drawn out. That said, I wasn't a huge fan of the ending of Girl Friends - I didn't feel like we got enough moments of them being a couple before it went into huge argument drama and then an abrupt end.

Edit: Also the side characters are way better here and way more relatable than that one girl in Girl Friends with six boyfriends.

@voidox Exactly, anything is possible. I’m not saying that she’d end up with him at the end of the story, just that it’s a possible arc in the overall plot. I know it’s a yuri, and more than likely Nanaki and Kaede will end up together, but it seems like a way for the author to go about pushing Nanaki to confess her true feelings.

It’s also true that Akio could just want to catch up, but it seemed like Iroha was also part of that group and he didn’t include her in that catch up, specifically asking just for Kaede.

We’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t know what the author’s plans are, just my intuition from what I’ve gleaned from the story. I could be totally off base here.

Kuro saying she let out her otaku side talking about Nanaki, and getting mad because Fujishiro turned down my goddess Izumi, saying things like "no one could make her happier" makes me think Fujishiro is like and idol for Kuro, and the way she see her is kinda platonic. Also the "no one could make her happier" seems to include Kuro herself, it was clear in the beginning when she was "ugly", but now after all the changes she has done and she still thinks of Nanaki being unreachable

Exactly, anything is possible.

well sure, but part of my point was if you are going with the "anything is possible" as your reasoning/proof, well then there is nothing much to else to say since that just opens up anything and ignores what's happening in the story

Maybe the dude is actually in love with Iroha and is trying to ask Kaede to help him confess since he's embarrassed <--- anything is possible right

it seems like a way for the author to go about pushing Nanaki to confess her true feelings.

not seems, it exactly is this. This whole thing will be used to push Nanaki and Kaede closer together, the guy's confession or w.e he does is meaningless cause it's a yuri manga about Nanaki and Kaede.

Also the dude has literally no development or current connection with Kaede (outside of him giving them manga to read), they are just now catching up. Sooooo unless this manga turns into "not yuri" and is no longer officially tagged as yuri, then spends volumes on development with him, i.e. completely changing the genre and story... then nah, can't see the dude ever getting to date Kaede

thing is, it's a common yuri manga trope of a childhood friend or senpai suddenly showing up, in love with one of the MC's (or has history with her) and that is used to push the main couple forward.

I've never actually read a yuri manga where the out-of-nowhere friend ends up actually dating the MC, especially involving a male friend, so I highly doubt that happens here. Though unfortunately what I have seen is many yuri manga that use this for so much melodrama and "oh we can't talk" bs -_-

this is a yuri fluff with confirmed lesbian characters, clear "more than friends" moments and all that... really can't see how you can glean anything like the dude will date Kaede o_O especially when Kaede is literally gushing and blushing over Nanaki in this chapter and the two are on the cover

@voidox Morinaga Milk’s”Girl Friend’s” plot device for the first half of the series is this entire situation. An out of nowhere childhood friend becomes the boyfriend of the FMC after her make over and they date for an entire summer break. So yes, it does happen in yuri manga where the FMC dates a guy for a period of time even the protagonist of the entire series.

I didn’t say that she was going to only date him, story end. Just that I could see that as a possible story arc to get Nanaki jealous enough to confront her feelings for Kaede and confess to her. Also, Kaede is treating Nanaki like an otaku does an Idol. It was very similar to her gushing over the manga character.

@Lilisionnach ah yes, there was that one manga... but exceptions don't make the rule. So sure it did happen but it's extremely rare.

And again, there is nothing in this manga that points to that happening if you look at where the story is and how the two MCs feel/think of each other. Kaede is not out here denying her feelings and trying to be "normal" such that she'd force herself to date a guy, which is what happened in Girl Friend's, and she was very uninterested at even the idea of dating him when it was brought up

So ya, even if it did once happen in another manga, that doesn't mean anything here. Also, man that manga (Girl Friend’s) was melodrama mess of "can't talk to each other cause drama" -_- but anyways, in Girl Friend's:

she didn't really date the guy as much as she was just spending time hanging out with him. I mean, the manga even says as much in chapter 17: the dude's friend calls them hanging out as "study group and not really dates" and mentions how the two hadn't even met up since summer break started. They only planned to meet at the fireworks festival, and at the festival, she ran off from him when he tried to kiss her. Then she didn't even spend the rest of summer with him or even contact him.

So it was basically nothing, barely spent time with him/texting and didn't even kiss the dude is not really dating. Her feelings were all for the other FMC, and she was forcing herself to hang out with him to try and "be normal"

Just that I could see that as a possible story arc to get Nanaki jealous enough to confront her feelings for Kaede and confess to her.

third time I'm saying this: if you are going to go with "anything is possible" as your reasoning/proof, then sorry but that means nothing. Like I said, if anything's possible then maybe the dude is in love with Iroha and just wants to ask Kaede for help but he got embarrassed

but ya, I said I do agree that this will be used to progress Nanaki and Kaede, but where I disagree with you is that the dude will not actually date Kaede. Nothing supports the wild assumption that she would even accept him asking her out, nor is Kaede in a situation like the FMC in girl friend's. Furthermore, Ajiichi's other manga have never done something like this, it's almost all just pure yuri fluff

sooo ya, I've made a few points here as well as in my previous posts that show how there really is nothing backing up your assumption. If you're going to stick with "oh anything's possible" and ignore my points, then w.e I guess... you do you~

That boy is seen not very honest about his reason, for other sizes the group already know about girl love in this setting, so is last sence accept a relationship with a boy to tried correct her attraction.

I genuinely thought Kurokawa was already past the point where she still saw Fujishiro as some sort of Idol. Didn't they have a big teary eyed heart to heart several chapters ago about that stuff? It kinda feels like backtracking to me, although I get why the author would do that from a drama point of view.

Drama everywhere.

And who's the girl at the other end? Was that the one that was at odds with Nanaki?
