Well, I'm sure in this manga everything turns out good in the end and Kurokawa will realize her "true feelings", etc etc, but it would be pretty interesting and realistic to end the manga on bitter or bitter-sweet at best note instead

This is a thing. Just look up some of the manga rated 6ish/10 on this site. It’s not like a novel direction, it’s just not rated highly or popular among readers for whatever reason. Partially because people like really flat and “wholesome” storylines I guess.
