I don't think it was. I'm pretty sure the little monster was lying and just trying to get him to kill things. If it's intent was to stop evil monsters and demons then why did it tell him to kill a random person without a second thought? It seems to have just wanted to corrupt him and the guy went along with it willingly.

Pretty sure that was the plan. Snowball a bunch of criminals to drive the dude insane but as luck, for the little dude, would have it the dude was already a greedy piece of shit that would do anything for a bit of fame so that wasn't needed.

Fun part about the title though; 勇者, hero, fits the XX slot but so does 魔王, demon king. Meaning it's The Legendary Demon King's Sword in the end.
