I have no idea why thirty thousand people bookmarked this manga. I never thought so many people would actually read it.
Just thought would be different, ended up being trash yet like any good trainwreck,we can't look the other way

Regardless of MC's reasons for keeping distance, I don't like how the tomboy basically blackmailed him into being friends with her again. That's not even a friendship at that point, more like a hostage situation he can't get out of unless he willingly chooses himself and his reputation to go up in flames, and what will that girl do after that?

Add into the other girl who acts all haughty and salty towards him for not being chosen to be confessed to, and I can't see which one is the better girl right now. This is honestly a really bad introduction for all the characters.
Tbf the reason he gives for NOT wanting to be friends isn't because of her. Its a pretty half assed reason. She's 100x better than the insulting bitchy friend.

All of these characters kinda suck, and I don't think that's meant to be the point.

Hmm I don't really like the mc attitude. He cares too much what other think because he hanging with a beautiful girl. Let them be jealous!
Remember that this is high school. This manga is pretty low-quality, but his reaction isn't that unreasonable. You absolutely should care what others think to some extent in all life situations because what they think can result in consequences. This is a romcom manga, so nothing will happen beyond jealous nameless guys seething in the background, but in real life he could get bullied or ostracized for being friends with a pretty girl while not being among the popular kids of the class. This can happen in any Western country, so just imagine what it must be like in Japan where conformity and "knowing your place" are even more important. Obviously, he's taking it a bit too far with wanting to avoid her, but again, this is just a manga.

On one hand, I get you. On the other hand, I'm tolerant of that particular thing, not only because of how judgmental the Far East is towards anything that sticks out, but also the way in which they act towards it. There's a reason this stuff keeps getting made. More and more people are relating to this in Japan and by social constitution, it is not designed to end.

She's not even any more popular than any other transfer student would be. It is expected that she would start making friends around now, so it wouldn't be weird for him to be one of them. There's no reason for them to hide their friendship.

Like, I don't actually have as much of a problem with the whole "hiding our relationship" trope as some people, but come on, there's absolutely no reason for it here. It feels like the author just included it for the sake of it. There's no justification.
The justification is less a direct plot inclusion (at this point, anyway), and more of a cultural subtext thing. MC is from the lower-end of the social strata, and by her not only being cute but also a transfer student, she gets to start off at the top and "pick a clique," something you can't do if you're already "settled."

MC already commented on his aversion to the spotlight she put on him, but consideration also plays a part in this:
Consideration is a significant and socially "desirable" quality in Japan, which is reflected and applied to how they write characters. MC acts selfishless here, but by not being "explicit" (another thing Japan is not particularly fond of; frankness/being real), the audience could insert justifications until they are vindicated or disproven.

Now, for my comment of this:
While I did say in the last chapter that I wasn't going to continue, I forgot that throwing it in my "Dropped" list, won't make me not get notifications... so I forgot what this even was, and my curiosity returned.

I did not expect a second childhood friend (lol), but blackmail? Nice. You know we love some coercion, right Japan? How else can you expect to get chicks, or at least learn how? (Please excuse the subtle racism, I don't know what came over me)

So, she's either a childhood yandere, or just a "quirky," socially clueless bimbo... who can socially blackmail? Yeah, I can see lonely men finding this hot and attractive. What could be more attractive than a women committed to controlling you, when despite the negatives, what you do get IS commitment, something you've likely never had?

I can sorta understand it... but not my type (Shin Hae-in from "My Bias Gets On The Last Train")

Why is the mc treating a close friend of his that he didn't meet for years like that???
All it can take is one confession going wrong to ruin relationships for a young'un, especially if you felt misled.

I've read too many mangas that are similar to this. They all follow the same plot and sometimes it just gets to such a point that the manga itself becomes too predictable. But for some reason even though I've read 20+ romcoms that are exactly this, I still can't get enough of it. "MC wants to live a nice peaceful life" then suddenly a harem appears out of nowhere is genuinely one of my favourite tropes.

I hope the new girl wins, the old girl is a tsundere and I am Wayne Gretzky of hating tsunderes

Whilst I agree with you Japan has a culture of conformity and even though most people forget it they had a very strict caste system that was only abolished relatively recently and even then they still have aristocracy and a monarchy, people only want to see people together if they think they match. It could legitimately cause problems for him to date her unless he was say on one of their sports teams or something.

I legitimately thought the blonde girl the FL was friends with was the girl he confessed to at 1st (doesn't help that she doesn't have a name) then I thought the new girl was the girl he confessed, all 3 do legitimately look the same
MS girl was Shimazaki Hiyori. You can tell she's obviously a different girl from the hairclip... (JK but accessories are often the only way to tell some characters apart even in much better manga.)

Bruh this samey art style is gonna be the end of me the artist is incapable of making blond girls look distinct from each other...
I keep notes and specifically write down hair and noticeable accessories.

Honestly, I doubt she ever would reveal it. She's just probably using it to prevent him from distancing himself from her with the intention of never exposing it, cuz Japanese MCs are gonna be Japanese MCs and even Japanese heroines are getting tired of it.

Nixing that though, peppy>tsundere every single time.
Bitch-chan's getting her stupid prize for playing the stupid game.

But the blackmail is a necessary plot development because when you have an MC that is SO generic and SO bland and SO incapable of taking the steps necessary to change his life, the girl HAS to take measures to force him to change.
Because God forbid a romance slop protagonist have actual agency.
I thought the boob grab was really random and out of place last chapter, but now it makes sense. It was contrived to be there so the plot could happen.
