The 9 counter debuff implies that it's a hard time limit for the fight.

The stake that got Tsubaki is...not new.
It's actually a gimmick shown before, and Hnagiku figured out after she recalled similar nail/cursed doll from all the way of their last visit to the mountain:

Boss stake half the people, and to break out you must break the cursed dolls on its horn.
It can also make copy of the staked people to fight remaining people.

Spoiler: Part 2

After phase 1, boss will split the party in half in a mirrored world.
Damage on the boss only last if both side damage the same part, otherwise it'll regenerate to its healthier side for that part.

Break this phase by destroying the spider lily its head become

JK it's a repeat of part 1, but this time the group noticed the boss get stunned based on how many cursed dolls there were.

And more importantly, when Tsubaki used Cure earlier, the baby in the stomach start crying.

So the way to break past this phase is actually stunning the boss and have the healer purifies the baby. (maybe could be done without stunning the boss, but Tsubaki isn't combatant so the squad chose the stun route to give her opening)

Boss's health bar fills up, the true form revealed, the real fight begins.
