Gosho is a genius but it really shows sometimes that he's still writing in 1990s. Such as Iori just happens to have a random paperclip on him to lockpick with. Nevermind the fact that Gosho must've done enough research in the past 2 decades to understand how difficult it would be to pick locks using paperclip (simply from you'd have to be able to tension the lock + feel the pins), but even more egregious is that it wouldn't even be a stretch to think someone like Iori would keep a lockpick toolset on him because he's just that type of guy who would overprep for everything.

Basically:

Iori pulls out a lockpick set => wtf he carries something like that on him at all times? => Well okay I suppose this guy is "by any means neccessary" when it comes to attending to Momji.

Vs

Iori pulls out a paperclip => Okay why do you a paperclip on you? => If it's not for its original purpose, and you're simply packing it in anticipation of having to use it to pick locks or something then you'd have packed a kit.

Also, all the gals in this series has shown to be the strongest fighters of all time, and sure from Iori's POV if his lady has to resort to beating someone up herself it'd be a terrible embarrassment and failure on his part. But surely some guy with a knife is the least threatening and the lowest stake for a case when it involve the girls. Better off leaving it for the Detective Boys cases where they can't simply beat up the culprit.

"Just as we thought, some guy would get murdered on this train. Good thing we didn't do anything to prevent it."

Also, what's with that "they coincidentally noticed me and recognized that I was a former member of the PSB" thing?

I'd say if his lady were to have a cloth problem, a paperclip could help. I mean if our friend Amuro pulled this while acting as a butler I'm sure no one would bat an eye either

Then I'd expect him to also have a sewing kit.
We can all understand us normal people yeah having those stuff on us at all time is ridiculous because we won't ever be in a situation where it'll be needed. And even if that situation pops up you'd still be considered weird. But for an attendant like Iori even if it happens once in a thousand days it'd be worth it because Momiji is royalty.

As for Amuro, since he's a BO operative I'd also expect him to keep weird specialized subterfuge tools on him.

People you shouldn't expect are the Detective Boys, Kogoro, Ran, Sonoko, Conan's parents, Heiji, Kazuha, Sato, Takagi, Jodie. They shouldn't have anything out of the ordinary on them.

People who plausibly might (mostly because they're neurotic): Shiratori, Rumi, Akai, Sera, Mary, Vermouth, Kid, Amuro, Iori.

People like Rum and Gin likely won't even though they should.

How on earth did someone raise a bloody knife without anyone noticing it...
Entire carriage was booked by momiji and the guy was behind them. If anything I guess it’d be more questionable how he’s instructing Iori without sounding suspicious during that period, but maybe that’s why Heiji comes to look for him at the end cause Conan and him sus-ed it
