To this day I still can't understand why Conan gave them the program they were looking for just like that.

Considering the program was incomplete and they couldn't access the floppy disc without a password nor copy it to have a backup floppy disc in case something happened to the original it was pretty pointless keeping. Conan setting the floppy disc in the locker to create a trap which were his plans almost worked if it wasn't for Gin being the genius he is. It was a risk even planning the whole ordeal, a 50/50 split on what could've happened.

I love that this chapter displays Gin's intelligence and deductive reasoning that can match Shinichi's, whilst also keeping it grounded by having him not even entertain the notion that a child could be the one who set the trap. It also shows him losing his cool for a moment when he frantically searches the lockers.
