I want to believe... I mean it probably takes a hell of long time to draw this crazy shit with such detail and you can't really draw from reference lol. Perhaps the wait will be longer then MiA, but it will come. One can hope. It's my new religion.

guy is a priest from a cult that is apparently descended from these cosmic shapeshifters or just worship them as ancestors. these beings seem to have powers to change the shapes of themselves and humans/animals that have come in contact with it. one of the beings likely escaped and caused the world to be in the state it is in, and (IMO) the specific shape of its manifestation in the town is caused by the girl so strongly imagining an abomination which gave it its current form. the priest then decides or is sent by the cult to exterminate the source of the chaos and end the suffering of its victims, which unfortunately can only be achieved by killing them. it is possible the priest came to this girl specifically because she also wished for her family to die instead of continuing being snails.

also he is implied to have some form of psychic power; he can pinpoint the girl just from the ema she put up at the shrine and it seems he was genuinely conversing with the girls' family by reading their minds or something. the ending is just him giving the girl a pep talk right before they finally confront the being.

This is very clearly numbered as Chapter 1, both on Twitter and within the chapter. The intention for more clearly is/was there, tho whether that actually manifests is a separate question.
