The LN is on the second volume, both translated to English by J-Novel Club (I don't think there's any untranslated volumes at this point) - the first volume covers everything in the manga so far and then some more, the second is a whole new story arc. They've also translated the first two volumes of the manga, and are working on the third.

The WN is up to chapter 174, I think, but it's been on hiatus for a while - maybe because the author is working on the LN versions? I have no idea what the translation of the WN is like or how much further the story goes - I had a look at the first few chapters /ages/ ago, when that was all there was, I haven't read it since.

As far as I know the manga follows the WN rather than the LN - there are noticeable differences to the story, but nothing /really/ big, just the kind of thing you'd expect on a rewrite with editorial input. If you like the manga the LN should be plenty fun to read too . . .

If they were OG humans from our world why would both of them be doing the things for the war? Although I will give them credit if they are "forced" to do it like how MC can't help but act chyuuni like in future chapters so I'll hold off full critisim.

I think "like a mess" is some sort of JP expression. Seen it with mtls several times before. I think it's used when something is ridiculous or over the top.

I don't have the raws, but from context, I'm going to guess that the initial word was "mechakucha", which is better translated in this case as "absurd" or "ridiculous".

Which makes the line "You really are a ridiculous person" (how the official LN translation did it), or using the MTL's output, "You really are a mess of a person".

How did you get that it's volume 3 anyways?

The volume art doesn't matter. What matters are the chapter numbers and even more the chapter content. And since the official volume 4 content page says that the chapters are volume 4, they are volume 4.
""MangaDex"" prefers official volume data pretty much every time over chapter data (which is why the moderator accepted my report to change your ch. 14 volume number to 4)
You can lurk the contributors subforum or #contributors on Discord (you need a role for the channel) to see some of the cursed stuff why ManagDex prefers volume data.

"elective religion" I'm not sure about that one line. I kinda get it from context what it was suppose to mean but I don't think that phrase quite fits right. Is it just me, or did anyone else get hung up on it?

The MTL probably got stuck on 選神教, which I'd translate as "religion of the chosen ones", "god's choice religion" or something along those lines.
選 just means choice/selection, and while it can mean "election" (選挙), it can also mean athlete (選手), so I wouldn't get hung up on the first results you get from a translator/dictionary. The more relevant results are probably "chosen people" (選民) and "chosen one(s)" (選ばれし者).
If you go back to last chapter, where the term first appeared (and the tl just erased it from the dialogue instead of translating it), the hero says 神に選ばれし者 ("chosen by the gods") while explaining the religion (also I don't see anything pointing to him starting it, could be just the MTL assuming everything is 1st person like always, though I just skimmed that part)
