Can't wait to see that brain tank caved in by one of our protagonists.

My prediction is this:

The cargo he wouldn't talk about, was probably poison mushrooms. They seem to like public execution as a form of indoctrination. Cue argument, then it's revealed that the horrible things he was doing was to protect her and to be able to fly. He relies on them for some reason to keep the plane running, maybe they supply fuel or something. Then he does something like try and sacrifice himself to protect a poison mushroom, the plane is destroyed, and he either dies or survives to atone for his sins.

Cool chapter, really liked how they made the plane work in this setting. Like how it grappled the tree to stop and used a log as a place to take off. Also, isn't it interseting how they needed a book to tell them who is poisonous and who isn't? I always assumed it was just something they could always inherently tell.

I'm not gonna lie, I thought Anzu's hair puffs were just part of a uniquely fluffy jacket until we got to the flashback with her in a dress

yeah I'm not sure what to think about the whole "you smell good" thing yet because apparently anzutakes do genuinely smell nice like apricots (which is why the name translates to "apricot mushroom") so it could either be a random comment along the lines of "I like your perfume" or something much more ominous. Only time will tell. I hope it's something like a compliment though!

Hmmm, I noticed when looking up the old village guy and another "inedible" mushroom, some of them are actually medicinal ingredients when brewed as a tea or something. Seems like only a "you can literally eat this," symbol in a field guide counts.

Also "anzutake" is the Japanese word for chanterelle, these guys are dicks.
