I see this pretty often in manga. I don't know if Japanese actually has a different term for in-laws and steps. So, I often see in-laws pop up to describe steps.

On a side note, always surprised to see a Tatsubon manga that's not yuri.

I guess in both cases, it's a not blood related sibling you gain from a family member's marriage... so there is no differentiation between getting the sibling from your parent's marriage or sibling's marriage...

Kinda makes sense if you think about it.

Try not to rely too much on Google Translate, which is what Twitter uses and is often unreliable for JP->EN translation. You can use dictionaries like Jisho.org which tell you that 義理の兄 (giri no ani) can have meanings other than just "older brother-in-law", like "older stepbrother" which is correct in this case.

Also just in case you want to fix this, you can edit the chapter per-page without having to delete everything and reupload.

They use the same words for both (e.g. 義妹 (gimai) can either mean younger stepsister or younger sister-in-law) which does make it confusing without context and almost always throws MTL off.

Your half brother's mom would be your step-mom..... I feel like you are over complicating it...

If they are your mom either from marriage or your half sibling's parent, then they are your step parent.

The step being that there is a gap from real parent (aka, relating to your direct relative but not you, hence, "step")
