@Monkey123 Not necessarily. Especially if the demons happen to be how Talh has them pegged, they would not want to work with a human, and especially not a hero.. no matter how strong he might make them.

@monkey123 I happen to love Slavemancers, I was just explaining why the MC chose it despite the other options having more potential.

@gaigous he's not giving up his potential when he chose Slave Merchant, he just chose which title to display and take classes for. Sure he's not going to get specific training for Hero, Demon Lord (they would kill him if they knew), and Great Sage, but he'll still have the power of those titles from what I've seen.

However if humans and demons were not majorly the usual stereotypes in the story's settings then they would not be hostile towards each other from the beginning, right?
E.g. if humans and demons were willing to cooperate with each other then they would not have the "hero" as "pinnacle of humanity" and the "demon lord" as "apex of the demons" but instead those titles would be something like "hero" = "pinnacle of those who protect the innocent and the weak and bring true justice to everyone - no matter which race" or "demon lord" = "most powerful leader that fights personally if he deems something neccessary to be done for his people".

@Talh This is fiction, the possibles are endless. There could be demons undercover at each academy waiting for a Demon Lord candidate to show up, or any number of plot twists to facilitate him choosing one of them.

@gaigous Even if something might happen that defies all expectations, those were still very astute observations by Talh, and completely possible... and honestly, entirely more likely than other plots considering the comfort of cliches. Besides.. the title itself tells you that slave merchant is the only option he's going with. I find it extremely unlikely that he will go with any other visible titles or classes, even if he is discovered as having these other potentials.

@Nermie01 I agree wholeheartedly, Just to clarify @Talh and I were discussing tropes and how they dictate storytelling.
I was just commenting on the industry, why the writing is the way it is, how it affects who the characters are, their decisions, and eventually the plot itself.

If he was really giving up the power of his other classes I would be pretty disappointed, but just choosing a display title is fine for me.

But the MC would have liked to avoid the title of "Slave Merchant", too, because it is a pretty "famous" profession that will in turn gather attention that he would like to avoid.
Also usually you would only choose "Slave Merchant" if you had no other viable choice or if you have a reason to not take the other choices.
In the later case people would expect you to reveal the other choices (like the elf girl did in this chapter revealing that she had respectable alternative options).
So people would know that you have a good personality as can be seen from your other choices but you must have had a reason to not take those other choices.
That way people will still treat you respectful while viewing you as a "good person".
But the first case is the problem. If you have no alternative respectful choices for your profession so that "Slave Merchant" would be the most "respectable" choice among them then that would mean that your personality would only be fit for that suspicious profession or even worse professions.
Therefore people would become prejudiced against that kind of person.
And now comes the issue the MC has.
He wants to have a quiet life.
So he cannot reveal his alternative choices "Hero", "Demon Lord" or "Great Sage".
If he did he could forget about a peaceful and quiet life completely.
But without revealing his alternative choices for his profession the people will naturally put him into the catergory of persons that have only worse choices than "Slave Merchant" or no alternative choices at all.
And with that the people will judge him to be a "suspicious" and probably "malicious" person and treat him based on that kind of prejudice wthout even trying to get to know him first.

Gotcha. Sorry if I came across as overly defensive, I'm used to getting attacked. I agree that certain tropes are too over-used to the point where some stories are basically the exact same, so it's nice to have a turn-around or differences. I just find that unlikely to happen here is all. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Unlike a lot of people, I don't mind cliche at all, it just depends on how well the cliche is utilized and presented.
