As someone that thinks this manga went downhill after chapter 28 and stopped reading at around chapter 50, I have to say, reading chapters 99/100 and the comments after all this time makes me glad I skipped all the artificial drama straight to the predictable conclusion, because you still get the gist of it.

This manga ending at ch.101 is also as predictable as ever.

It's a shame what this manga devolved into after such a strong, wholesome start.

That being said it was still very nice to see this artist's art shine after all this time. I hope that in his next work, the author skips the drama/harem, and focus on healthy romance. I know that doesn't sell, but I can dream...

All that stalling and fake-out drama just to pull the plug right after? This should've just ended like 60 chapters ago with a proper confession and relationship the first time instead of all the pointless detours
Yeah, this manga could have just been literally 30 chapters long (up to chapter 28 or so and a small confession arc), and it would have been amazing.

Alternatively, it could have been an amazing high school love story and build up for 30 chapters and then grew up to chapter 100 as they graduate. Granted, I realize I'm talking about mangas like Horimiya or Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie, but that's where I thought this manga was heading back when I started reading it.

As expected. Very often confessions are meant to be a finale of these types of manga.
Look at:
  • Kubo won't let me be Invisible
  • Quintessential Quintuplets
  • Tomo-chan
tomo-chan was even worse! the author kept stalling even after the confession with that stupid arc about
him having to defeat her father

Yeah, It did. They only just started going out but author still added more drama to the very last few chapters, as main focus.

Wow. I really thought there would be more story involving his mother and who he was with. The best parts was when they were together which I felt was only 15% of the series. I wouldn’t mind all the other girls getting in the way if we had a lot more of them together. The best romance manga always end up being the ones that shows them actually together and dating for a long time.

Which would be fine if it was a shorter story or it was simply about the characters being friends the whole way while it was obvious where we were ending up or if it was a "true" harem where the final couple was at least somewhat believably in question. The issue I had here is that we knew from the beginning where things were going and we knew that they were inching towards a confession, but then there was all that drama in the middle inserted. There was the sudden sorta-fake relationship with senpai. There was Sayuri's confession arc. There was the BS bait-and-switch "Fuyuki's leaving" arc that resolved itself with 'ha ha, she's only gone for like 3 weeks' as if that shouldn't have been at the forefront from the beginning. It's that at no point in all the meandering, distracting, detour plotlines did I ever for a second think that this was going to end up anywhere but where we did. And because of that everything in the middle felt like a waste because it was as if the author was told to try and fake us out into thinking maybe he'd end up with another girl but at no point did it ever seem like their (the author's) heart was in it.

end with the confession if you've built to the confession really well and explored everything you can to get there. Or, preferably, don't end with the confession because a relationship is just a brand new adventure with uncharted territory to explore if you've made enjoyable characters. But don't end with the confession after you've wasted like 60-70% of the series' running time on things that weren't really worth it in the end.

honestly, this felt like the publisher put a metaphorical gun to the author's head and told them to just keep stringing things along while readership was high, then as soon as it dipped it was like "well, that's done. wrap it up now." instead of just letting them tell the story they wanted to from the beginning.

Bleh it got dragged out in the end, great art though

It being dragged out is also probably at the publishers request due to its popularity

So the author doesn't want to redeem himself with drawing and narrating wholesome school romance after all that forced drama and unnecessary extras.
Well, shame on him and I thank the publisher that it's just a freebie.

The author had around 70 chapters to do that after chapter 28, by chapter 50 it was pretty clear this was going to be a drama/harem designed to drag on and on with an obvious confession to first girl ending.

So 70 wasted chapters cancel out even a tiny possibility of the redeeming contiunation after the 101st chapter and it was the obvious confession ending.
Yeah, thanks for enlightening me small brain with your already twice repeated stance. Me small brain couldn't understand it for the first two times, but the third one did get to me small brain.

The back cover art from volume 1 onward had secretly been hinting at how the story would end, so that initial color page spread of Fuyuki and Shiki from ch 100 confirmed it was pretty much over.

My prediction:
The final chapter will be in November
The final volume 12 will coincide with the anime in January
