If that's the case, I wish they would have made a formal announcement about it, or at least an author's note, since it really changes how I look at and enjoy the new chapters.

Unless it was mistranslated (a distinct possibility ), the author's note from 100.5 indicated 101-ish was supposed to be the end. Could be that hype for the anime gave the series new life too 🤷
