This whole arc reminds me of Final Fantasy 13. Specifically, the whole “keeping souls in a separate container to sleep through a calamity”. Except unlike Final Fantasy 13, the manga said “That‘s stupid.” and decides the best course of action is to move on from the past and allow the next generation to live.
