I am flabbergasted at how quickly this arc has made me not care about the story at all. I loved this series when it started. Sure it was simple and pretty typical of those "I was kicked out for being useless but I'm actually OP" wish-fulfillment stories that dominate fantasy series, but it was fun. This arc is like the writer wrote down all this background lore and worldbuilding and was like "fuck it. I spent weeks doing this so now the audience is going to get every single fragment of it given to them to appreciate the hard work I did." without considering how much of a drag it is. It's overly complicated, kinda navel-gazey and pretentious, and likely mostly unnecessary to the story at hand.
A secret of good writing, that a lot of mediocre writers ignore, is that you should always have more background and lore than you need for your story. Give the sense that there's more to the world beyond what you show the readers even if you don't show it. And learn to make the tough choices about cutting things that don't contribute to the story even if you think they're interesting (or if you can't do that yourself, get yourself an editor who can do it for you.)
