It was labeled yuri officially, but I agree. This feels like when yuri is used to describe CGDCT. It was "cute" but I'm a bit tired of these series dancing around things when other romance series don't. It's a very manga thing to do, since I see less of this kind of thing from Korean and Chinese series (and Chinese series have to deal with actual censors).
oh god so when i waited for this to finish all along it was a WASTE OF TIME! god fucking damn it! HATE yuri=friendship !!!!!

It's still yuri, just on the more platonic side of things. The genre has included this kinda stuff since its inception. Though of course a much better example of this is Futari Escape, which has a very similar roommate (and mangaka) scenario that also doesn't have explicit romance but is still nonetheless very obviously yuri.
fuck that shit, so we stuck with garbege mentalitt while YAOI guys stick their swords into their one back and we are FUCKING STUCK WITH YURI=FRIENDSHIP FUCK THE MORON WHO DID IT!!!

Um.. you don't FREAKING BUY A HOUSE TOGETHER if you're just "roomates". It's permanent. It's not like rent. You can't get out of this like you can with rent and you don't go through all the moutains of papwerwork and sign your life away if you're "Just Best Buds".... These two are pretty damned gay. Jeebus, people......
Sorry they didn't kiss, fuck like bunnies, or anything else. It's a slice of life for chrissake....
And yes, I know other SoL stories have had that in them. This isn't one of those. Get over it. It was a cute story. If this story had been about a guy and a girl buying a house together, everyone would've assumed that they were just a couple. It's the same goddamned thing with this...
brother fuck off the lack of anything romance IS NOT FICKING ROMANTIC THEY ARE NOT IN ANY RELATIONSHIP beside FRIENDSHIP so YEA IT FICKING SUCKS!!!! they aren’t even AROACE or anything they are JUST FICKING FRIENDS!!!

do please tell me that Yaoi is about guys just being friendsh! fuck the moron that though friendship is Yuri for fucks sakes! and stop DEFENDING IT IT WAS YURI BAIT ALL ALONG!!!

Should we remove the GL tag since it's over and no girl-loving occurred?
yeah i agree, but some people are really hell bend on sticking to the reduction of what’s gay for women by adding friendship to the meaning of Yuri.

while Yaoi and Bara are 100% about gay men, fuck the era Yuri was born when are we gonna get the second Tag for Lesbians/bisexual women? so we fucking don’t waste time with yuri bait?

It's not just that it doesn't have explicit romance. It doesn't even have implied romance. Platonic yuri? Isn't that just friends?

I would have been fine with even the tiniest mention from either one that they had romantic feelings. Or a blurb from the author that later on, they got together. Something to make the nebulous yuri vibes even a little concrete.

To me, it seems that there might be feelings somewhere in there. So why didn't we get to see that?

I don't understand why people feel like they should defend this as yuri or GL. Why are you settling?

Nothing really changed since the start, but oh well
I feel like yuri manga holds back because gay marriage isn't legal in Japan. It's not realistic for them to get married, because the country the manga's set in won't allow them to do so. So we get endings like this that are basically suggesting they're going to spend the rest of their lives together, but that's it.

Would have been nice if they'd at least kissed in the final chapter, though.

The vast majority of yuri is not purely platonic, and in general yuri is near fully romance stories, but like, that doesn't mean stories like this where its purely platonic (where its also two girls deciding to just live together for the foreseeable future which is, y'know, really gay) aren't yuri. Like again, Futari Escape is very much yuri and its also platonic with only the smallest hints of something more. These types of stories go beyond "just friends" because of how they are structured and how the characters act with each other, if you've encountered the term "queerplatonic relationship" its basically that.

Now, I would have of course preferred if this had explicit romance, I'm just arguing over the definition of yuri. I want more yuri to be explicit about the relationships, just it is still yuri when its not explicit.

I have no idea why some people accept the barest crumbs like this. Situations like this one are why Japanese production companies live off of and make money from "open to interpretation." It's not 1990. If a romance says the characters are gay, they should be clearly gay. Why are we dancing around, taking a magnifying glass to their house lease in order to scream subtext?

It's amazing to me. I feel like we should have higher standards than that by now. Not only are they not together, but maybe I've forgotten do we even know if they're gay? Have they ever even been clear about their sexuality? If this counts every CGDCT might as well be "yuri" too. I'm sure the companies would love that. Great for free marketing and art without ever having to commit to anything. What other type of series is treated like this?

did we skip the romantic part? did we skip the fact that there is literaly NOTHING between them? what do you mean this is their version of they got married?

BRO this is NOT any version of Romance AT ALL!! it’s just FRIENDSHIP and literaly nothing else! nothing implied WHAT SO EVER

okay, but I'm laughing my ass off at the sister's reaction. she was like "oh, okay. fine. if you're gay you could've just told me so"

I typically love yuri SOL, but this one was kinda meh for me, particularly because I felt that the pacing was kinda odd at times, and Fuantei was a legit loser lmao. I got biased after that, but also would've loved to see more of Shikkari's work and personal life and insights.

As to their sexuality, Shikkari likes men. Her first love was an anime dude. Her biggest reaction to Fuantei was when she crossplayed as a guy. That doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't also like women, but we don't see it outright afaik.

Eh that depends what you mean by accept, cause IMO it is yuri, it's just not very good yuri at all, if it had even the barest hints of romance it would've been so much better. The way people are saying things is that if this is accepted as yuri that somehow makes it good and fine or that more yuri should be be this way, which isn't the case at all.
