I'd honestly wager that teachers are much more impactful in Asia compared to the West, given that teachers are not only much more respected, and school occupies a larger chunk of the day. Though, I guess it would really depend on the person themselves.

I don't know about today, but wen I was a student, there's quite alot of teacher that is really great although most of them are really strict wen it comes to class/study, but they are fun to talk to wen outside of it, ironically, being punished like having to stand outside of the room wen you are too noisy or did some thing shit is part of what make it memorable (but prolly not fun for some, but it happened back in 2000s wen being punished is really common practice and just part of the course here in ph)

Yeah, Sensei saying she was a "generation older" comes off as strange to me -- but that might just be Western-thought bias that a "generation" spans something like 15-25 years.

lol yeah i imagine some high school teachers have to write recommendation letters and such (tho i nthis case i imagine you would remember someone you had a crush on but idk how likely it is for ppl to start up any kinda relationship)
