I should have expected that this arc would end in a rather anti-climatic way 😂 But I'm happy that it's a success and now he is back on the island clinic!
(That mikami though 😂)

Thank you Zoro-san!

I liked the manga, but now it's Naruto all over again, every bad guy will become a good guy thanks to the power of friendship... Mikami's personality has changed way too quickly.

I guess I will really drop this manga... 😥

Anyway, thanks to the team for their work on this manga.

@First_Mate_Zoro

So far there have been 2 characters who didn't care about the truth AND tried to ruin Dr. Koto.s life, the reporter and Mikami. And both of them have become "good" guys.

I can accept the reporter reaction, because he lost his sister due to a doctor's mistake. But Mikami is a doctor who could have killed a patient, just because he has a serious ego problem. And it was not the first time he has acted like a real piece of s*** (he hid and caused the death of a patient, he also gave fake intel to the reporter, and almost cause the death of another patient by trying to conceal information), and he changed because "why not".

@MKaze I don't see a problem with it so long as it's explained properly as part of who the character is. We've barely seen anything about this doctor so we don't have any context as to why he might want to make this switch.

Take Pete Campbell from Mad Men for example. He tries to betray Don Draper and get him fired by revealing Don is not who he says he is, but ends up failing in the end. Bert Cooper gives Don the option to fire him if he likes, but tells him that he would hold off. "One never knows how loyalty is born" is what he advises. As it turns out, until the end of the series, Pete Campbell becomes Don's ally and advocate no matter the situation.

Now why would that be the case? Rather than satisfying some "friendship trope", we can see the reasoning behind why Pete might act this way based on his dialogue and his interactions with his family. He is constantly reminded that he was hired because of his family name. His family reminds him that they gave him his name and that's all that matters. And he does have a distinguished family name. But Pete makes it clear through his words and actions that he wants to be lauded on his own merits and efforts. Not because of who his family is.

Which gives us insight into why he probably ends up sticking with Don. Despite Don stealing another person's identity, he is judged by his boss by the person he is right now in the room. Don has no name, and yet is judged to be worth keeping around. Why wouldn't Pete try to follow his example to get what he's always wanted?

@MKaze , his character progression was coward doctor then became egoist doctor and the became decent doctor, envy and amazement has very thin line of difference. why his character change so fast is because he is a young people that want to search "real me" so his character reasonably very dynamic. At first he see dr. Koto as god-like figure that he could not achieve so he couldn't do something that dr. Koto trust him. Then he had justification to hate him because the scandal and want to pushing the blame to him (and not himself)

by performing this operation and make dr. Koto looks incapable, he also want to use that to make justification that dr. Koto really was to blame for incident years ago, to justify that dr. Koto just another human and he is already surpass his former god-like figure that is dr. Koto (so he could justify that he is better than his former self) (so two reason, protect his own pride and growth justification).

After the operation he is realise that dr. Koto wasn't a God-like figure nor a mere pathetic human, but just a great doctor that he should to take example of if he want to become better than his former himself. So he make that choice so he can grow and found "greater self". Young character in story usually change and grow because they want to become a greater "self", so "why not" reason that you said doesn't click with me with this young character and the story justify that his change.

I think this is similar with Nietzsche camel-lion-baby character progression, but that is only my opinion.

@guildwriter I think you should hide one part of your message because it's a spoiler of Mad Men (I already saw the show so personally I'm good).

I get the idea but I don't really like your comparison, because what Pete did could be morally wrong (grey area), but what Mikami did was morally and legally wrong. For me it's a huge difference, Mikami should already have lost his job (when he hid and caused a patient's death), but what he dit afterwards could possibly have sent him to prison (not sure what the Japan legal system would do).

@skepticium Personally I think Mikami's personality was way too rotten (inner thoughts shown by the mangaka + wrongdoings), so I really dont find the way he has changed credible at all, especially because it's done so suddenly.

One could be envious/jealous, but to the point of trying to destroy another person's life or to risk the death of a patient, it became really hard to accept Mikami's change of heart.

Already gets the Hoshino to do his washing for him and make his meals, maybe he should just propose while he's at it?
