I actually really liked the concept of comic - taking something so well known and beloved and using it as an isekai. It unfortunately falls a bit flat since it was only three chapters.
One of the big criticisms I have for dragon ball is the fact that the series has all it's characters, besides the sayans, fall completely to the way-side.
Yamcha himself is the badass rival character, until Tein shows up, who is then dethroned when Piccilo shows up, who is then replaced again by Vegeta.
A story where the MC would have to train that much harder to keep up with the unfair MC's, or using all the tricks in the book to swing things in his favour. For example - why not use the dragonballs to wish for the same training abilities as sayans?
This could also be used to correct some annoying plot issues - yeah Yamcha is dumped and Bulma shacks up with Vegeta, but given the plot to how they started dating, and how long they dated, that's an incredible contrivance they glossed over (probably just to degrade yamcha more, lol).
While the idea of a side character doing these things isn't particularly new or fresh in the isekai genre, doing it in a story that's so well known and beloved is new. Even making a 'legally distinct' version could work, since people would know exactly what you're referencing in regards to said property if handled well.
It's the fact that we know what's supposed to happen, and love the original like the MC, does that makes this feel distinct; compare this to usual akin isekais where we're just told the plot of the original at the MC's leisure for plot reasons.
Anyway, enough rambling, we'll probably never actually see an official series that's quite like this, but I enjoyed this for what it is, and the ideas it gives.
