This happens so much with political extremists that I've abandoned horseshoe theory and adopted tear drop theory. you'll go so far on one end you'll end up on the other side.

I watched an interesting video by a girl named Patience Xina on youtube, and she equated progressivism to a bell curve rather than a straight upward line, where theres a "peak" amount of societal progression before you start reverting in the name of it.

You need only type in "black only spaces" on google to realise that the far left are just as much for segregation as the far right. Its something we got rid of a long time ago, yet there seems to be a modern push for it. The far right and far left, extremists as you rightly call them, are basically just two sides of the same coin.

I do wish far left bigotry would get called out more though. Everybody knows the far right are racist morons, but nobody seems willing to call it out on the left. I'll have to check out those theories you mentioned though, it might have an impact on me.

I love racist, xenophobic, manga thats actually about white people (more specifically disrespectful American colonialism attitudes after WW2) and I’m tired of pretending otherwise
Projected global frustration with black people and other dark-skinned immigrants onto White people award

Can't wait for this one to get an anime adaptation in 2-5 years and all the leftoids that hate it for being racist suddenly saying "we've always loved it"

I for one think our main girl is a bit of an unreliable narrator. (I'll take my media literacy award). Also she's basically a man, and I don't mean her looks.

I did want to say- with regards to people announcing that this is a racist story, while it is early days and it is hard to tell where things are going, much of the story reads as anti-colonialist more than anything. The aliens depict themselves as saviors, are wealthy, entitled, violent and seem to conspire to pressure humans into manual labor and other 'lower' professions. They are praised for bringing good technologies and a better way of life. These are all pro-colonial talking points. Meanwhile, the colonized people must shut their mouth and be grateful to their new 'peace-bringing' rulers.
I think the issue with the 'this is a xenophobic story' interpretation is that xenophobes normally do not think of immigrants as an 'upper class' that rules over them. Normally, xenophobes view immigrants as a savage, uncivilized under-class of invaders. These elements are not present in the story.

One says it's anti-imperialism, another says it's anti-immigration, the third talks about eating the rich, and the fourth is pointing out that it's just about aliens. And to all of you, I'll say, yeah, and it's great - let the author create more!

A lot of Western people in the comments sound like vegans who deliberately went into a sausage restaurant and are now complaining that the chefs are cooking meat, while everyone else is happily enjoying it without issues.

I can't wait for the chapter where they revive emperor Hirohito and go on a crusade against all the Americans.

I think the themes here are great. It will be interesting to see how the author writes it moving forward.
And then the meteor? “Ohh.. the aliens staged it!” Why would they? Were the aliens looking for a new planet to inhabit? Obviously they could’ve just killed all humans if they had the technology to stage an entire meteor, so why would they keep up alive? They want peace! They want to work together with people!
Why exterminate when you can have a nice and obedient race of slaves?
Look at it from the perspective of the Aliens. Without knowing their culture or history I'd assume their sense of ethics and morality is going to be completely alien to ours. Being a spacefaring race there's going to be a superiority complex, you'd expect Humanity to suck you off since that's all they can do. You saved a planet of primitives from extinction and they even worship you for it, of course you'll act smug about it. It's a nice planet too, just shower them with scraps of your technology and they'll lap it up.

A few more generations and you'd have their culture so dependent on yours that they're basically a slave race worshiping the ground you walk on. It's already happening since you can get away with paying them peanuts in wages. Then there's that little theory of Kitami's: why wait for something convenient when you could fake a catastrophe and capitalize on it in short order? Send a rock on a crash course, wait for them to panic, then "save" them. With the difference in tech they can't prove you sent it hurtling along in the first place, and they wont if you have anything to say about it.

Yet this story is from a Human perspective. It's from the perspective of people who've been snubbed by these supposed "saviors" and they're treated as second class citizens. You've had nothing but bad experiences with the Aliens and it doesn't look like you're benefiting from their technology either. Naturally you'd resent them, and since they're not Humans this little thing called morality won't get in the way of taking your frustrations out on them.

The eating them part is gross, but think of it this way: you're living paycheck to paycheck on unhealthy instant food with destitute poverty being the only future you can see for yourself, just when you're finding yourself a little desperate a pile of fresh meat just fell in front of you. Laws be damned you have nothing to lose and tomorrow you won't be starving. Kill em' and grill em'. :meguusmug:

getting on my hands and knees and praying to god this manga isn't just an unbridled murder fantasy for racists and has the characters develop into something more whole. so much potential here, art is great lore is cool but based on the tone of the first chapter this could either be a great cultural commentary or a nauseatingly edgy shock fest

edit: dude this first chapter lowkey feels straight up evil
man whats wrong with putting humanity first

This one will def wash out of the magazine. It's heartwarming to see that the core anime base of dumb, angry, terminally online debate bros is still here in 2024. May we continue to read your awful takes in 2025; cheers <3

It is either the worst way to tell an anti-xenophobia/racism message or quite possibly the most on the nose alt-right signal I have seen.
this manga is made by someone from japan. how in all hells can you connect it to american politics somehow?

Dude. You’re saying drawing a parallel between aliens being discriminated against and hated and other races being discriminated against and hated is “mental”?

And those millions upon millions of discriminatory stories with aliens clearly show that the aliens are bad, they’re the antagonists!
They give reasonable evidence to cause suspicion and make you think, “hey, these alien dudes are kinda evil.”

However, we only get the protagonist saying, “hmm.. aliens kinda rub me the wrong way..” because they have a crappy boss. The other evidence we get are aliens being as bad as other people. You can replace aliens with humans with another skin color, and then it’s racism, but its fine when they are human in almost every aspect except appearance.

Speaking of the deuteragonist, his family got killed by aliens drunk driving, which is obviously really terrible! But then he hates the entire species for that. Make the alien look like a human with another skin color? It’s obviously racism when you hate all black or white people because a black or white person ended up killing your entire family.

Perhaps looking like a savior to the people would warrant easier peaceful negotiations, but they view humans as equals. They’re seen dating people, partaking in the same sports, eating their food and more! They’re not incapable of kindness; quite the opposite, really, based on how well they’ve integrated into society.

Speaking of appearance the manga is literally just “Racism: The Comic” with people that had their looks swapped to that of an alien? They’re doing normal things. They’ve been just as an asshole as regular people are on a daily basis. They’re literally the same as us, just as intelligent, just as capable of evil and good, but they don’t look human.

I sincerely hope that this turns out to be a comic where the protagonist realizes they were wrong. I hope its too early to tell, but all signs point to flat-out racism.
(Well, the comic is from Japan after all, so racism/xenophobia wouldn’t be surprising. There are tons upon tons of manga with racist undertones, but it’s the first comic I’ve seen so blatantly racist with a sizable amount defenders.)

Sorry for the long paragraph, and I mean to no way insult or hurt you in any form (no matter what you look like), but it’s astonishing how racist it is. Just because something aims to be a tad lighthearted doesn’t mean it can’t be r

i dont think its correct to equate the aliens to another race, it seems to me that the manga portrays them as a higher class within society rather than people of a different ethnicity or race. they are clearly being treated way better than a regular human. The reason the second protagonist hates the aliens isnt because they killed his family, its because they killed his family and everyone else just let them get away with it. he hates aliens for getting away with doing horrible things, and he also hates humans for letting them get away with thdm. aliens can casually lay their hands on humans, but its not okay for humans to fight back. they get so much better treatment than humans, and theyre abusing that power as much as they like.

Obviously i dont think that justifies killing and eating them, i still think thats fucked up, but from the looks of things it seems to me that the manga isnt even going for a morally justifiable mc, considering whats shes done, it looks like the story just wants to create a scenario where what the protagonists' motivations are at least understandable.

You're a real idiot aren't you? This isn't about white people or america. Americans didn't mass immigrate to Japan or steal Japanese women or a bunch of stuff that happens in the first chapters. Japan deserved everything they got after ww2 considering what they did and America never colonised Japan. You should learn what that term means. Japan started the war, and then conquered and raped half of Asia. You can't be this dense.
Stealing Japanese women? excuse me? You say that like the aliens are abducting and raping the women. theyre just dating japanese women. Its questionable whether the women in these relationships are being treated right, but theyre still grown adults that can make decisions for themselves. they chose to date aliens, thats their choices.

No they did not. Most of Japan's citizens werent even well off, and iirc they didnt even like the wars their military did. I dont think the people that died in the American's nuclear attacks deserved it. Even if Japan deserved backlash for what they did before ww2, the majority if the people in there didnt do anything wrong.

Oof, the vibes are rancid on this one. The people defending this title, ask yourselves: What about this story would be fundamentally different if it were "Americans" instead of "Aliens"?

This manga has some very traditional Japanese reactionary xenophobia disguised with modern aesthetics.

Something tells me you didn't read the chapter lol. The fundamental difference would be that it's a different story since you'd have to rewrite everything, or you set your suspension of disbelief so high it reaches the moon which then makes it a crap story.

This reply is either in extremely bad faith or you genuinely don't understand allegorical storytelling. Not sure which is worse.
