I have no expectations for this MC, he's generally not too bright, but I really hope he doesn't become a vassal. He should already know his own worth as a summoner in that world, so he has no reason to serve others in such a role. He might want to contribute to the defense, since if the kingdom falls, there won't be any shop left to inherit either and his parents might perish. But he doesn't need to become a vassal for that. The princess only needs him to become a vassal so that she can declare to everyone that she found such a magnificent summoner, that is, to gain contributions. That's her bloody problem. To become someone's sworn underling for that purpose doesn't benefit the MC at all. It's much better to be a free man. Maybe she could give him benefits, but what benefits can't he get with his powers anyway? He would just lose his freedom and be forever tied to the royal house.

No seriously, I can't believe that Katia just came out of nowhere and punched him, and that along with all the other ways he was mistreated are being swept under a rug with "omg you were a girl?" The author is seriously delivering slop, not even trying to make the characters behave in ways that readers can respect.

Is the princess totally unable to leave the castle these days?
She clearly remembered how mch he wanted to stay under the radar, so why not visit him, and talk, rather than sending her relative, knowing it would/ could blow up in her face.
Especially since she seems to like him ...
Sure, there'd still be the sealing (all the weird writing choices made by the writer...), but that could easily have been solved.
BTW: Is he still at 30% "mana nerve" capacity, because I didn't notice Shitty McWriterson dealing with that, either.
And while we're at it - that powerful super mercenary loli mage was hired to work on state secrets of the kind where all powers that be would fight tooth and claw to lay their mitts on him. Apparently no problem ...
Also, with such a crisis, wouldn't all nations in the region work 24/7 at having all powerful M-users working on that monster problem?
I was grumbling about whether I could stand the writing. Apparently I can so far, but this really is beyond the regular shut-down- your-mind annoyance.

I mean OK, the princess no doubt has spent 8 years being told duty to the kingdom trumps all, but part of that should also be to value information, as well as the connections she has to people. And a connection to someone outside the regular power structures could be invaluable.
All this said, they were 7, meaning they're 15 now.
What can one expect?
