I think Nito's the smartest since she's the most logical and clearly has the ability to suggest/object Chie even her choice to be a sugarbaby is based on her rational (who doesn't want maximum money from minimum efforts?). It's just she always loses to vote because her surroundings are dumb af.
IMO, Chie's still smart up there, but more like "school smart"; while Nito can see things more critical.

Also don't forget she's the only one who actually has any semblance of a successful career being the author of a pretty well known book...

Just as people went to the trouble and calculated their remaining money last chapter, we get it told just a chapter afterwards, obviously
After fixing the spending on Hitora, slightly reducing Kanae's personal spending, and - based on what has been said - assuming that all spending on Kirara came out of Chie's pocket as well as slashing the discrepancy, the previous calculations still yield a pretty reasonable result

Tbf, Nito is the only really grown-up (at least a bit) person in the harem. It's good for her to be the voice of reason (albeit out of personal interest), but she'll have to stand her ground against Kanae and the others more firmly for this to work

I get your point but still, being life smart doesn't equate to being overall smart. She want's to be sugar baby because she realizes her own limitations and why it's best for her. Knowing you're not the smartest person in the room doesn't make you smartest person in the room.

Yeah, she doesn't want to work because she's lazy, introverted and doesn't see much potential in herself. That's what i mean by "her own limitations", im not saying she's dumb, im saying she just knows she wouldn't make life that'd satisfy her on her own.

In contrast Chie is a genius (tho impulsive and naive) that'd make it to best school in the country if it wasn't for a mental breakdown that Kanae served her. And I don't like how Mei is overlooked in this or other comparisons here. She literally learned economics well enough to save Kanae's FX Trading disaster, while she simultaneously worked as their maid, made Youtube content and learned how to make said content herself, and often was said voice of reason herself.

And again, im not saying Nito is dumb. If i had to give their intelligence a rating Chie would be ~9/10, Mei would be ~7/10, and Nito would somewhere between ~6-7/10 (ignore meme part), while Kirara would barely make it to 5. Im not even starting on Hitoba and Kanae since these two combined wouldn't even rival Kirara.

I don't think Kodansha is cutting short this manga because Hirohiko is a household name, we just having the usual "SHIT WE RUNNING SHORT ON CASH". of course also don't expect this series be lenghty like Girlfriend girlfriend, but who knows also.

we still don't get emergency onsen/swimsuit/fanservice yet. i think this series fairly safe rn.
