One gripe I have with this story is that the author is too chicken to use the proper names for countries or people. “Ron Howard” is clearly supposed to be a caricature of Trump but they don’t have the guts to say it.

Uhm making any large purchase in cash is a red flag. Also any currency in circulation that wasn't produced by the treasury is technically counterfeiting.

Since someone finally picked this up again, I decided to reread the earlier chapters. And I just noticed a problem this chapter. He appears to be watching Live TV in the dungeon (the wall appears to be the stone brick/blocks of the dungeon safe zone). Which is impossible with the time dilation in effect. Only way this works, is if he recorded the news topside, and decided to watch a recording inside the dungeon itself.
