It's likely intentionally being exaggerated to reflect his own self image (Like Accel World's protagonist), and to fit the artstyle. But remember this is set in Japan, where the average adult weight is notably less than in western countries. I've found some sources that claim average adult male weight in Australia & UK & US is around 90kg, while it's 70kg in Japan. So he is "fat" by Japanese standards.
