Im glad that the lady author drew a line here : no eating demi-humans . Unlike the crappy re:monster aka retard : monster manga in which the bakayaROU MC was a human but then he eats everything , including humans and demi-human species , RAW . If you havent read re:monster yet , then dont read it , it is total crap .

in dungeon meshi , the author created the Reviving System to lighten the deaths , but a faster and simpler way to make money is just looting the money and the equipment of the corpses .

The tree plants its seeds inside the victims , does that mean the elf get tentacled and impregnated ? Lol .

And Tarts are not for retards , lol

Why is it that the food they have characters hunger for in these settings allways food that makes no sense and is just the taste of 20th to 21st century Japanese person.
They never bring up food that makes sense for the medieval setting most fantasy is based around, like a meat pie or cheese.

So...its a BDSM plant?

@ChrunchBoi
Because what your average japanese person knows about western cuisine could be written on the back of the fortune in a fortune cookie. They certainly don't know shit about historical western food.

Not that it matters, a meat pie would require specialized cooking facilities and cookware, plus ready access to fat, flour and milk.

Western food cooked in field conditions was almost always either a stew or roast beast. If you were well supplied, you might be able to add a sweetened grain mash to your diet, or add a handfull of milled grain to your stew, but bread, pastries and anything else that involved baking was mostly impossible.

It wasn't until you got waterners interacting with middle easterners and India that they discovered flatbreads that could be cooked in the field.

Rou was a brutal bastard that had been a cybernetically augmented SpecOps trooper/Assassin before he died. Once he reincarnated as a monster, whatever shreds of humanity he had left were tossed away like so much Christmas wrapping paper on Dec. 26th.

The entire reason he objected to rape was that it was an inefficient way to reproduce as a species. It wasn't because he wanted to be a good person, it was because it was a piss-poor evolution.

Yeah, your right.
I also was writing this thinking of the elf desires when she was thinking about cake, sushi, and flan.
I get that what suggested wouldn't work for whats going on in the story right now, I mostly referring to what the characters want.
Reading more of this I at least know that the author understood that the average medieval diet was meat, bread, and alcohol.
I just don't get why its so few and far between in my experiences that they don't have these anachronisms.
It's like having hamburgers and French fries in a wutai setting.

Mostly because the menu in the field and the menu in the tavern or in a home are drastically different.

Fruits are delicious because they are supposed to be eaten, so the seeds can spread elsewhere (with free fertilizer at the moment of "planting" as well).

@Doodads Weell.. technically people claim Durian only smells bad, and it's actually delicious when eaten.. XD

Not that I would know, and I probably wouldn't try it either...

But fruits sometimes discriminate - just not towards everyone. So a fruit that smells like crap might want to attract animals (or people?) that like that sort of thing?

Pepper fruits (chilis) are an interesting example - they burn in the mouth of mammals (which we humans have learned to enjoy), but birds don't have the receptors for that so they notice nothing. So the purpose of those fruits might have started as "supposed to be eaten by birds, so they spread further away". (And then masochistic humans decided "we like this tingle" and now chili peppers are cultivated worldwide in a way that bird spreading would have had a hard time to duplicate).

@ChrunchBoi because this story was written by a 20th to 21st century japanese person for other 20th to 21st century japanese people. it's not a period piece about life in the middle ages, it's a goofy comedy about eating monsters in a made up fantasy world.
