The MC is actually pretty likable! He wants to help his old buddies even if he has to go out of his way to do so, I admire that in a person! Especially with how rare it is in manga/manhwa/manhua etc. Plus, it's pretty hard to make an MC likable, they're either a pushover, flat/empty (a.k.a. the "You can be the MC too!" bullshit) or so cold you freeze... so this manga (or whatever it is) is pretty nice change in pace!
