Hello everyone! Hope you're doing fine.:bocchiwave:

Recently got promoted to Dex-chan lover. Ok, now to make AMA thread...

First let me state some rules or general principles according to my will:
  • Please refrain from asking extremely personal questions (including my exact location or number of hair follicles— even though I kinda doxxed myself already)
  • If you do ask something which I do want to answer but shouldn't because it might be a bit risky or embarrassing to me then I will give a slightly vague or joke answer.
  • In case I think the order in which something is done is risky I might scramble or obfuscate the answers.
  • Please don't ask questions which I will not or cannot answer.
  • If you have multiple questions then try to post them together (preferably numbered)
  • Do ask the questions in English but some non-English stuff is allowed and try to keep it legible.
  • Let me know if you have any specific preferences or expectations with your questions.
  • Try not to offend people.
  • I might skip cow dung questions.
  • Any Lord of the Mysteries questions should be asked here unless the question is very much about me.
  • If you don't get an answer in 72 hours and if I'm active then that means I don't want to answer the question or am unable to for some reason.
Also I would like share a few little details about myself which might answer some questions or help you formulate your own.
  • There should be some info about me in my about page.
  • My real name is not Dverin Oshiban Duren (shocking, I know)
  • Age: Definitely in the double digits and old enough to drive (legally but maybe not in some other ways), not old enough to be called "grandma" or "grandpa" based on looks, still a bit too young to get married (in my opinion) so don't try anything funny such as attempting to win my heart over. I do not wish tell anyone that I hooked up with somebody through a MangaDex forum post.
  • Gender: normal*
  • Race: HCR2, I'm in Legendary and Canyoneer
  • Favourite race:
The space race in the 1960s
  • I don't think I'm very racist or anything tbh.
  • Mental problems: that's a secret; I ain't telling you directly.
  • Beliefs: some ok stuff
  • Never consumed, purchased or distributed substances that should be illegal.
  • Favourite dinosaur: Ankylosaur (Its the best and feel free to inquire more)
  • Favourite continent: Asia (I live there, totally not biased)
  • Scripts I can read: Arabic, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Latin (wingdings don't count) and like a few logographs of various east Asian languages.
  • Centrist (not because I'm a coward) but might be towards some extremes in other dimensions.
  • I might be busier for next few days.
  • Hopes: may I get good friends, a decent job and not have to experience an apocalypse.
  • I might reuse this thread for future AMAs.
*Normal means I appear to be normal but might act as if possessed by multiple spirits.

Why were you in such a hurry to make an AMA?
I was? Oh no, it really wasn't a priority or anything to me but I guess it might have looked like it. I'm just trying to have fun and this is my first time in an actual forum. An AMA was like the first idea I got which looked fun.
I don't even leave comments on YouTube for certain reasons but here it feels a bit safer. I guess I do have a completionist and speedrumner mentality when it comes to some things.
My first AMA is just one in name as I intended it to be just for discussions.
Thank you for your concern @Manko-sensei

蛋糕还是馅饼?
I didn't even need to translate this.

Normally I'd pick cake because I have never had an actual pie in my life or at least I don't have any memory of it.

If someone presented me with cake or pie then I'll pick pie if it has safer ingredients (I don't like meat but milk and eggs are ok) and doesn't ruin my budget to try it at least for once.

This seemingly simple question can be quite complex and give us profound insights into ourselves under the right circumstances.

What was your gateway into manga/anime? What series did you first watch to get a feel for the medium?
Ok so...
When I was child I went through a simple medical procedure after which I couldn't move a lot for a few days or maybe weeks. During that time I spent most of my time watching cartoons on TV.
At the time I didn't know but the first ever anime I saw was either Pokémon or Beyblade (won't tell you the exact series but neither were the first). I basically watched them together, in the English dubs, not starting from episode 1 and didn't even finish them. Only remembering some colours, shapes and names.
"Then I didn't watch anime for a couple of years" is what I would say except I did see one about Iron Man which I couldn't finish. Not sure if Jackie Chan adventures and Avatar the Last Airbender counts.
Later we got more channels and rediscovered anime (still dubbed and censored cuz it was on cable). From that point I started watching kids anime and figured out that these were originally from Japan. For a while I thought Doraemon was my first anime. Some culture shocks were there. Watched Pokemon and Beyblade from episode 1 and made it through several seasons. Also discovered anime movies. I distinctly remember seeing like one random scene and line of dialogue from Doraemon before that upgrade at another place which shouldn't have made sense to me because it was dubbed in another language but I somehow understood.
Just a few months after that upgrade I discovered even more cartoon channels which would occasionally show dubbed anime and even Animax.
Animax was where I saw for the first time anime which were not really meant for children. I think my first 'non-kids' anime was One-punch Man and The File of young Kindaichi, in Japanese dub starting from episode 1. I think I saw most of both, plus some specials and what I think is the second season. That was so thrilling to watch and it was like an eye-opener cuz I didn't know cartoons could have blood, murder, etc. I felt so cool and edgy. I still sorta treated it like it was forbidden and didn't want people to know I watch anime.
I also did see a lot of other anime of which some were just mediocre and I still didn't understand genres and stuff.
I think the first anime I actually saw the first and last episode of was "Working!!".
For some reason I couldn't catch any of the big ones like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc.
Ok so from there I watched anime for a few more years but then my attention slowly drifted to Hollywood movies. So I took like a 3 or 5 year break from anime except for some episodes of DBZ and super.
Then in 2024, after the quarantine (during the quarantine I was focused on my health and academics), I was scrolling through YouTube and discovered that there's non-pirated anime uploaded to there. That summer was when I really got into anime. Even started binge-watching because unlike cable I didn't have to wait. I don't regret watching any of those.
That same year I discovered that boys in my highschool were also watching anime so I didn't feel like I would stand out anymore because of that. :)
About a year later this guy tells me how cool and awesome solo levelling is while I watching Black Butler or Dr.Stone but I was busy. Idk how but I got into watching those youtube videos about manga. Wasted a lot of time with generic Isekais. Discovered manhwa and manhua. Then I decided to check out the Solo Levelling manhwa for which I found MangaDex about 1 year ago. Woah they have a lot stuff and it's FREE! Then I started reading the manga of my favourite series.
Discovered anime piracy sites only in mid 2025 and I don't really like them.
One year later I'm here.

what kind of games do you like? any favorites? you play any games on your phone? they say life is like a video game. do you agree?
Right now and for a couple of years I have been playing just mobile games which are free and not too intense like Chess, Clash of Clans, Hill climb racing, Plants versus Zombies, Soul Knight, etc. During the pandemic I got to enjoy and appreciate some Indie games. I even made my own games in Scratch (offline). I have also played a lot of stolen and retextured old copies of Minecraft P.E and I only purchased the actual game last Christmas, which was actually my first online purchase of a digital thing. Still haven't played it though...

Yeah I mostly played mobile games and pc games like chess, Minesweeper, solitaire and offline flash games for my entire life. Never had a powerful desktop or console and never used steam.

Years ago I often made analogies between life and games. Life is a game in many ways, a complex game with several mechanics and the more you know the better you get. Sometimes you need to grind hard or find the most optimal configuration to get what you want. It's difficult and sometimes you get bad RNG but at the end of the day, everyone is online and you would never get a real reset. So make your session count.

This question feels a bit... artificial...
Don't mind if I distort your questions a bit. Instead of a description I'll change to something else.

1. Hello I like some manga and I really need to control myself better.
2. Yes I will try harder and will not disappoint you.
3. Hi I'm [name], awkward silence even though I prepared for this
4. Hey
5. I think I'm ok in that regard, what about you?
6. Hello yes I know how to do this but [asks 1000 basic questions just to make sure I don't mess up]
7. Hey, which one are you? Ah don't worry about that thing, just chill and do this other thing. I believe in you.

Just in case it wasn't clear what my intention for the question was; basically I was asking you to answer the question: "who are you?" in different settings.
You might be 'a confident person who enjoys being around people and would do everything for these people' for one group, but you might be 'a complete nervous wreck who wants to avoid disappointing people' in another. I.e. personas; the different masks we all wear depending on the context we're in.

If that was already clear to you and you chose to change the question like that intentionally, then that's obviously fine. I got a fun answer out of it. I'll leave it up to you if you want to try answering the questions again with the above in mind. (y)

What about your music taste and favourite video game music?
Do you have any highlights in your life that you would like to share, could be anything really.
Would you rather be isekaid as a hag or a loli?

Nowadays I mostly listen to videogame soundtracks of popular and Indie games. I really like symphonic, metal, rock, orchestral and classical. According to my youtube music rewind thingy I mostly listen to "dramatic" and "upbeat" music. I also listen to anime openings and movie soundtracks. When I have lots of freetime then I listen to all kinds of music except for very niche stuff like Mongolian throat singing. I am not very familiar with pop but kinda wish I was.
My favourite artists are DM Dokuro, Toby Fox, Laura Shihigara, B.E.R. and more.

As a child I once tried to imitate a ninja by attempting to run vertically up a wall—do not laugh—I fell and cut a part of one of my sensory organs. It wasn't super painful, my sense is fine (I think) and I just have a scar there.

This really depends on where I'm getting isekai'd to and the nature in which I'll get isekai'd (does it just happen or do I get an interaction with some kind of deity?)
If I know about the place in advance then I'll pick the option that would be safer and has more potential to gain power or have a fun life.
As long as I don't start at a very dangerous position then I don't mind being either. I would prioritise my safety, others' safety, peaceful life, improving quality of life, gaining power and changing the world order in that order.
If I can choose to have a fun and safe childhood then I'll pick the loli but only if I'm not permanently stuck as one—if I will be stuck as one then I'd want to be either an immortal witch who just chills in the wilderness and maybe even sing with animals like a Disney princess or an immortal empress or shadow ruler of a country.
Being a hag is also a good option if I'll have more power and influence than the loli. I don't mean just physical strength but also position in that society.
If both options are equally good for an Isekai then I'll pick the hag because I don't want to be small forever.
Maybe I might find someone who is to my liking, get married and maybe even start a family but I think I'm more likely to be single, especially if I'm immortal and can't find another.
Obviously I will try obtain as much control as possible on everything that concerns me.
If the technology and society are still at medieval times then I'll try to make as much progress as possible, take advantage of my modern knowledge and also warn everybody about social media addiction and other modern problems.
If I can then I'll try to improve every aspect of the world.
If there's magic then I'll try to learn as much as possible.
Even if I'll be a maid then I'll do my best to change something for the better.
Hopefully I can die in peace.

Alright, some PvZ questions for you:
  • What is the best soundtrack and why is it Cerebrawl :smugchisato:
    Bonus points for Moongrains
  • Would you rather choose the Plants or the Fungi (come on, they are such fun guys)?
  • What goes best with Taco:
    • A) Spicy sauce
    • B) A time traveling van
    • C) A pot on the head
  • PvZ 1 or PvZ 2 (not counting EAs radical monetization ;_;?
  • Favourite world in PvZ 2?

Cerebrawl is VERY good, definitely in my top 5 with Moongrains but my favourite is Ultimate battle because its fun and also a good alarm tone.

What do you mean by choose? For fighting or eating?
The fungi are the cutest things in the game. Not sure if they are safe to eat but if they were then yea I could try a sun-shroom.
For an actual zombie apocalypse, I think plants are more useful. Most of them either look weird or explode so I don't think I'll try to eat those.

To go with taco 🌮
I'm not sure about the spicy sauce as it could be too spicy, expired or just underwhelming.
Penny is a good option but having a time machine comes with risks. It sounds fun but I'm a little scared of time travel.
The pot is a good option as it provides defence and utility.

As a game I think the first one is better and and it feels more 'complete' in a way. The graphics and humour are also solid and I still like them to this day. Do I even have to say anything about the minigames and puzzles?
The second game added a lot of interesting stuff but what ruins it is the imbalance. Without EA's monetization it would be a whole lot better but I'd still have complaints about game balance.

Favourite world? Well my least favourite is Big Wave Beach. Every world had something fun but also something annoying. I think Pirate Seas had an interesting layout without being too difficult but my favourite has to be Modern day.
