Having now read all of this I can say with absolute certainty... This is a freaking terrible Eat-Man sequel.
It's like after 12 years the mangaka completely forgot what made the original such a great story. Heck, some points feel like he straight up read the wikipedia article to remind himself and the just put implied things in bold faced text like it's common knowledge.
In Eat-Man Bolt Crank was a infamous explorer who while aloof and with mysterious multi-choice backstory, was a bit of a snarky jerk with a heart of gold who always had the chapter's current supporting characters best interests at heart. In The Main Dish Bolt is a emotionless block of wood who seems to be wearing a sign that says "so mysterious" and can literally see 5 chapters ahead in the manga so nothing surprises him. also now he has shiny Gendo Ikari glasses all the time instead of showing his eyes which would help him emote.
At the end of the original manga it's implied Bolt is biologically immortal and possibly the god/creator of the main setting and many other universes, making you wonder if the story you read was told chronologically(besides the chapters once Telomere is onboard) or even on the same planet. In The Main Dish BAM! every Tom, Dick and Harry knows he's biologically immortal and we're gonna literally explain every single detail about Bolt's past and existence. Goodbye mystery!
In the original manga there's a cast of rotating characters are introduced usually by hiring or being hired along with Bolt, given simple backstory and once they reach the goal of their adventure is bid farewell. Their stories are short and sweet. In The Main Dish you have a cast of reoccurring characters who are almost as bland as Bolt is now, talking about stuff and "mementos" like it's stuff that was already explained and is common knowledge. I literally had to check a couple times if characters were in the original manga and despite visual similarities only a single one was.
If you are a fan of the original manga, avoid this at all costs. It adds nothing, says nothing and actively takes away good parts from the original.
