I would have loved this to be the "Great Hero" reveal, like exploring through his trauma as a child soldier and everyone realizing he's been fighting for a decade and how much that scarred him as a child. Maou was a perfect catalyst for this development. The emotional crits could have filled a dozen chapters of the various character reflecting on how they've interacted with him, why he does what he does, his attempts to leave that past behind. Would have been awesome. Not exactly happy with a Kancho festival instead.
