Yea, phones don’t last long anymore like the bricks you use before elf sensei:dogkek::dogkek:
There's no real point in making long lasting phones anyways when new technology that's better comes out every 1-2 years...

Even if your phone was still operational, it would eventually just be incompatible with everything new that was developed.

Yeah i like to keep my phone for at least 4 years and could last much longer if I just don't think about it so for her she might accidentally keep it for 10 years.

Get a phone with at least 5 years of guaranteed software updates. Some companies even offer 7 years of updates. My phone is 4 years old and I don't see any reason to upgrade before it stops receiving updates. Battery life is still good and all the apps I use still run perfectly.

Yup, that and a ton of innovation. Although, the innovation is driven by the competition that comes from a system of capitalism, so I guess you aren't wrong.
I feel like the innovation right now is decreasing so the new EU law of having to offer still 5 years support after the phone get out of production is enough right now. Just like the PS5 is underused so a PS6 would not be needed right now except maybe removing the problem of having with PS5 and PS5 Pro two significant different consoles in power while also having PS3 support so you can have one console for the next 8-10 years.

Europe and gaming consoles are two things I know pretty much nothing about, so I don't even really understand what you just said.

But, laws that restrict innovation by limiting how often you can create entirely new software/hardware are pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

Nah the new EU law basically forces companies to support their Product longer. So if you for example release a new phone every year and with the new phone stop producing the old one it means the company is mandated to deliver software support for 5 more years despite 5 new products comming out during the years and hardware support for the next seven years. If the company meanwhile decides to release a new phone only every 4 years and so stop the production of their old phone it means you still get software support until the release of the second new phone.

Huh. Well, I suppose that makes a little sense.

The improvements in phone technology have been quite stagnant for a few years now, which is why most Android users laugh at Apple just re releasing the same phones with slight tweaks every year. Android phones aren't much better, but the different companies at least try various gimmicks. Also, the tech industry in general has reached a point where making parts smaller is extremely difficult compared to before, so that's also an issue holding back innovation until that barrier is broken.

The underlying software hasn't changed that much either, for both Android and iOS, so software compatibility isn't much of an issue.

I agree that competition and capilltalism should drive innovation, but Apple has basically trapped so many people in their ecosystem that they have majority market share in many regions, so they don't bother changing much and the rest of the industry copies them. When a company basically manipulates themselves into a near-monopoly like that, capitalism starts to fail, unfortunately.
Hopefully the recent lawsuits about the App Store and right to repair help open the way for third parties to actually force innovation, because most manufacturers' practices of "approving" only specific repair shops (who would just recommend a replacement) was a huge part of why people would keep buying the new phones despite no changes. If Right To Repair ends that practice, and phones last longer, then the companies actually have to improve their new devices if they want people to buy, which would be proper capitalism.

The improvements in phone technology have etc etc.
That was a lot of words...

Well, I'm not sure if I fully agree, but yeah technology hasn't made a lot of big leaps lately. Hopefully that just means there will be some new breakthrough or innovation soon, since that's how it usually goes.
