also why did we have a horse in the background when he was talking about how beautiful she was :worry:
the elf bad with economy maybe. she's been travelling around but still not know how much the price of equipment has gone up and their gold is not enough to buy a sword until the store owner said it :pepehmm: no way she doesnt get money reward at all while other hero become equivalent of noble

Japan: Has so many cases of people (especially mangaka it seems) working themselves to the point of serious issues or death that "lol exploitative work culture" is a standard media trope that nobody bats an eye at.

Also Japan: "Everything is fine. Nothing to see here."
Also Japan: Why are you not having kids?

Damn, getting "axed" on chapter 2 is rough. The story seems entertaining but it's a shame. I can see the problems in this chapter itself with unfinished backgrounds and other details missing.

The married couple actually fucking put this leagues above the sea of "married couple doesn't do shit" mangas. Off-screen was fine, just actually happening is better than I expecting.

The artist having a "health crisis" so bad that they canned the manga is fucked, though. Did they lose their arm or get cancer or something? I guess we won't know.

Horrible working (and maybe living) conditions, constant stress, overwork, cruel deadlines, toxic East Asian work culture. All that adds up and at some point you get a flu, miss all the deadlines, bosses chew you up, more stress, more work, your health deteriorates and at some point you just break.

Author got really sick
That's actually sad. The premise use fun and the art is nice. Hopefully after they recover they can pick it back up somehow. I know I'd be mad if I got a series serialized and then had to cancel it due to my health. Of course health takes precedent, but man that'd be infuriating.

The FLU is also REALLY bad in Japan this time around. The Japanese ministry of health literally declared an epidemic a few months ago. I don't think it's anymore dangerous than usual, but it has been spreading a lot more and any case of the flu is gonna be painful.

I'd also say it has a lot to do with how Manga is created vs how western comics are. There's a lot more responsibility on one person and it's more independent work that goes off to the editor. From what I know there are assistants, but that's more of an "if you can afford them" thing. The idea of a team of creatives working on a book isn't as common IIRC. Especially for newer authors and early works. Though that's probably true for western comics as well (independent works and breakout debut comics definitely have more stress and more a struggle from the lack of experience, connections, and support).

Edit: Actually, in general artists have it tough. No matter the industry (animation, video games, backgrounds, design artists, etc) or region you never really hear "good" stories about their treatment. Artists are also taken for granted a lot. Now there's generative art to deal with. I wish they at least on large got more of the respect and admiration that actors or even directors get. Without with artistic creators we'd really just be staring at words on a page or screen.

It's part of the culture. Japan as a culture focuses more on society and community. It's about the group as opposed to say the USA where it's about the individual. Unfortunately, neither perspective on life is just good or bad or better than the other. Both create their national level issues which are incredibly difficult to change. It's not that Japan isn't trying. It's that the reality is they'd have to shift entire cultural norms that have been ingrained onto Japanese people across generations. The norms themselves also aren't necessarily bad. Like for example the same principles that lead to Japanese people respecting their elders and older generations a lot, are also what lead to a lot of issues of power harassment because... not everyone is a great person and it only takes one bad actor to abuse good morals. Japan itself has a very secure job structure (it's hard to get fired), but part of this also leads to career advancement generally being based on seniority and loyalty. Leaving a job is frowned upon and promotions based on merit are uncommon. You don't praise the individual in Japan, you contribute to the group and even then credit goes to the senior members. Change is happening. For one younger generations are much more influenced by western cultures and aren't as attached to some of those older ideals. However, Something to thing about is that companies in Japan send out surveys asking their employees why they don't use their paid vacation days and how to encourage them to use their paid vacation days. Like that's the situation. People literally feel bad for NOT working overtime or properly using their earned vacations. And if you see senior members acting that way then you double down and feel even more like you have to do as much as they are. It's a more homogenous culture and that can be great in the sense that you're encouraged to live with your family or form communities, but really bad in other ways. Just like American culture can be great in some ways and really bad in others. How we think, feel, and just perceive things affects everything. Unfortunately, It's not like there's just a button to press to change how everyone thinks and feels. The fact that it's such a common trope in fiction IS itself a problem because that trivializes the issue to extent and normalizes it. It's something people laugh about. It isn't at all viewed as strange and people are only now slowly thinking that it is a problem that can be dealt with.

Funnily enough I was thinking this manga was kinda mid, oh well. One less manga to read.
You made it sound like, “mid, not surprised that it’s cancelled,” but in reality it wasn’t bad, decent compared to the usual slop, had only been 2 chapters to judge, and was actually cancelled because of health issues.
