This arc was easily Okamoto Lynn's magnum opus and the highlight of the series.
The character development of Bandou is not only special for this series, but special for the genre as well. Top tier stuff only muddied by a bit of a shoddy translation and some artistic and logical inconsistencies.

Damn, was thinking Mayu would die but not Bandou...

He was a muscle brain blinded by vengeance, but had such a development, eventually found someone that usually is afraid of even men to break and share an affection. Although it was borderline pedo, felt a bit good. He passed away with a smile on his face...

Goddamnit Lucy, snap out of this bullshit already.

Lol at the author trying to suddenly turn this egotistical murderer into some kind of hero. Lol at Mayu kissing him out of nowhere.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH this story and its characters all make so little sense to me!

Mayu is, what, 12? 13? And Bandou seems to be in his late 20s to early 30s... Haha, fucking hell this story is wild.
Okamoto was definitely exploring his weird older man-young girl master-servant relationship fetish while writing Elfen Lied. I mean, c'mon — there's so many girls in this story that have some form of daddy issues lol. Nana, Mayu, Mariko, Nozomi... And I still have no idea how that bum Kurama is still alive.

Oddly enough, I don't think Bandou ever got to actually kill someone, which is kinda funny since it makes him an actual saint who is much more morally just than most characters in this manga.
