So has Duroa actually ever been brainwashed? We know she's resistant to his magic to some degree, since he can't read her thoughts. She kept going to his house, but she had her own reasons, and then she justified it by being guilty. And even he seems uncertain. So either she wasn't brainwashed, or it had less of an effect? The novel her by this time had lost all personality and couldn't act unless directed, so clearly he didn't use as much power on her.
