@iridescine

Exactly. There's what you call private family matters and considering how messed up his family dynamics is it's reasonable to keep it under wraps. Telling Valrose will just put her in more compromising situations.

Thanks for the chapter A Parody Scans team! Happy Holidays

@scarlet_summer going by that line of thought, never telling her anything would leave her unaware of pontential danger too. She already got involved with him, might as well be informed at least about the size of the hellhole that is his house.

But meh, maybe I'll give this situation some slack, because it happened during their childhood/adolescence, although both mcs seemed to be mature enough to make rational decisions.

It's just, people are mad because the ml didn't do anything wise to amend his only relationship before its collapse if he really cared about it as he shows now.

I'm sorry, but no "tragic backstory" will take back the crimes he committed... Brainwashing tens of people over ~10 years is akin to kidnapping them... All we have now is a reason for why he acts like this now. He's still a "villain" in the story

everyones criticizing the ml as if he should know better but being raised in an environment constantly trying to kill you obviously doesnt teach you much about morality. brainwashing people that hurt you isnt as much of a crime as everyone attempting to kill you and your actions that take place in some girl's dream prophecies arent what makes you a villain.

It's in the human nature to defend yourself. If your mother and everyone around you was constantly trying to kill you and you had one convenient tool in your possession, would you use it? Of course. Everyone who says otherwise is lying.
And if the same poeple who hurt you told you it's wrong to use it, it does not make you a Villain. It just makes you a survivor. Especially if no one ever taught you basic morals. How would he know better?
Some poeple here are really fast to judge. Do I agree with him? No. Do I get where he's coming from? Totally.

what i like about this story is always going to be that the central conflict is obscured by the "plot", and it is so easy to misunderstand what is goin on. Roa and Nocton were already broken long before Alice makes her accusation, which they both knew to some extent. Roa didn't want to be in an unequal relationship, nor did she want to be the pitiful duroa who clings to duke edgar despite him not wanting to marry her. Nocton dug his own grave with her a decade ago, and he knew he did so but not in the way he thought he did. Alice is a catalyst in two ways: getting roa to take a decisive step away from nocton by getting engaged with someone else, and of course forcing his secrets out in the "open".

every time i read the webtoon or the novel, i am always a step from losing it because the layers make the story so delicious. Is nocton at fault? sort of! he hurt roa repeatedly, and knowingly. Is roa at fault? also sort of! she approached him and continued to approach him for dubious reasons, and while she did fancy herself his friend for a while, a large part of their friendship was that she wanted to be safe. she let him hurt her for that reason.

everything was a mistake, indeed.

Anyone else finding these translations a little off sometimes? There are some chapters that are really confusing. I don't know if it's because the story itself is like that or if it's the translations.

Anyway, thanks for updating!

The duchess is a witch. Of course, his family's no better. That makes Nocton's thinking and actions understandable. And even though he brainwashed people, he didn't kill them all, and he could have. Like the FL, we judged by what we saw, even though it's so different from what it looks like at first. 😮

Thanks for the chapter! 😉

honestly, the mom can go die. Nocton should have killed his mother like if I were the FL and i learned of this information, i would give him the approval to kill his mom LOL
