Been a while since a manga was so boring i actually skimmed pages for 2-3 chapters...just wow.
For anyone wanting to get into this title, unless you really, like really really REALLY like slow stories where they talk so much but mean/accomplish so little this is for you. This is a story where they talk just to talk, it's hella boring, abysmally slow paced, disjointed and drawned out. Felt like i was reading a politicians speech as theres a lot of words but very little substance.
The arts pretty but that's it, just pretty. The characters look like mannequins, the snippets of combat which we saw were disorientating and full of "pizzaz" making it look...pretty...again... And nothing more. Reading this made me feel like im choking on confetti.
The plots a revenge story... A very very generic one at that as well.
I understand why noone wanted to translate it for a while, it's a nightmare just reading this.
This might seem hella mean but i didn't write this just to be mean, this is my honest opinion after 8 chapters
The art is gorgeous and the main characters are interesting! There is some decent mystery involved and quick paced action—only 8 chapters and we already have multiple near death experiences, villains, and fun side characters. High rating!
It's slow, the chapters are not as vibrant as the cover (better if matched like beware of the brothers). When characters are introduced flowers keep showing a lot sadly, sparkles.
The story is quite okay though there are times where her skills don't match the description
Fast assassin+dagger movement and skills for a noble chivalrous fencer that stopped for a very long time as empress yet retains greatness
I'm sticking to the story though because of her identity matching my favorite GBA game
I read several chapters of this and here are my thoughts overall. I mean no offence to anyone who enjoys the series or the translators who clearly like it (thank you for your hard work, as always). This is just a critique of the author’s choices in depicting their plot, pacing and characters.
I mean, it started off okay. Very generic “female ruler betrayed by her beloved husband for another woman, falsely accused of crimes and executed, only to be reincarnated as a chance for revenge” type deal that seems to be all the rage nowadays. I decided to keep reading until it began to tell its own story since that’s usually when these things start to get interesting. Unfortunately, once it veered off the beaten path of clichés is exactly when it started to get bad.
Some of the panels feel like in-between frames for an animation. Like if this was animated, it would make sense to have those minute changes in expression and position to flesh out the scene, but in a comic with limited space it just feels pointless.
The mermaids called a speshul white wolf with green eyes their king. Fair enough, guess he’s some sort of shapeshifter. How the main character managed to sneak away from an apex predator with keen senses despite having been almost burned, chased by an angry mob, being tossed about by a fast-moving river (as a local so helpfully pointed out), nearly drowning in an ocean and spending an entire night in wet clothes is beyond me. Okay, her wounds were healed. There’s still exhaustion from all that running and almost drowning. The wolf kept her warm but her clothes are still wet, buddy. Big fluffy thing on one side of her doesn’t completely negate hypothermia. Then she walks around, runs around and gets into a fight the next day with injured feet on top of all that? They’re bandaged up but they’re still injured and untreated. Author, I hope you stretched before all that reaching. Even if she’s a witch, there were no indications of her using her powers or her powers automatically activating to help her. Again, she’s still injured.
And the characters aren’t characters, they’re just set pieces for the main character and the emperor who seems to be the love interest. There’s no substance to them. They’re not people, they’re conveniences. The girl with the dark ponytail is a multitool who helps the main character escape a mob and reminds her of a beloved friend/servant in her past life, but also has problems so main character can show off how heroic she is. She has nothing to her except how relevant she is to the main character. Even her relationship with her brother is just so the mc can show what a good person and badass she is. The guy trying to sell her off to a... pub? bar? Is this just a lost in translation type thing or does the author think pubs and bars are the same thing as brothels? Anyway, the guy is just a generic obstacle to overcome complete with bullshit reasons for no one but the mc being able to stop him, evul minionz, and evul smirk face. The local lord is rapist who forces himself onto virgin girls as price for letting them marry their beloved. He’s also fat, ugly and a glutton, just in case you still weren't sure you were supposed to hate him. Did David Cage write the plot for this? I’m getting sick of gratuitious rape as drama. All those girls being raped aren’t important, they’re not part of the main cast! They’re just props to show how evul the bad guy is. Great message. “Don’t care about anyone who isn’t close to you getting hurt more than bare-bones pity. You don’t know them so they’re not important.”
Don’t get me started on the emperor’s conversation exposition dump with Clever. I get that it’s telling the audience what’s going on, but the way they’re discussing it makes no sense. Clever brings urgent political news, okay. Then they they mention it might lead to a war, fine. Then the emperor starts explaining basic international politics to his advisor; things someone in his position should already know? And finishes with his “Imma take over the world” speech. Is that the first time he told Clever his grand plan? From his reaction, it seems so. Also, I forgot his name (if it was even mentioned). The love interest’s name isn’t even as memorable as his assistant’s.
I stopped reading when the love interest bolted upright from dreaming of mc. He reacted like he just woke up from a nightmare, but started thinking about it like it was his first wet dream. That was the final, nonsensical straw that broke the confused camel’s back.
This is very mediocre, which is nothing new to the genre. It's an easy read if you're looking for something to pass the time, but it's just like every other entry in the betrayed female lead revenge plot romance type books out there.
I don't understand all the complaints, this may be cliche but so are 99% of webtoons. I can see nothing exceedingly bad about this story. People may be sick of this kind of plot but that doesn't mean this specific webtoon is bad, I find it interesting thus far and hope it doesn't get dropped!
excuse me but is the king a psycho.? How could he said he "loved" her and then killed her after some moment without batting eyes? Disgusting bastard...
The beginning and is yes like other isekais, but the character development and transmigration is different. The art is STUNNING! The female lead is strong AF and it reads definitely like a female empowerment manual in process. Also importantly S.Korea isekais tend to be less meandering and the MLs like douschey (generalising here).
Very surprised at the low-ish rating. Definitely 8+
It's a bit cringey but i do like the art and story premise. Yet I feel like they forgot to focus a little more on the writing part, despite having a very good idea for the plot. In my opinion character moves and reactions are a bit robust, predictable and boring.
Nevertheless I still enjoy it.
The pacing is a slog and I suspect the artist isn't able to draw action scenes; and considering this is supposed to be a "strong" female lead, we're probably just going to continue getting blue balled.
Tbh It's difficult to give this a rating. The story's good but the writings not. Imagine trying to retell mulan but doing a bad job on it. Now mulan is great, but the way you told it ruined it. That's how I see this story.
Artist definitely can't draw action scenes. The ones that are rendered are confusing and make no sense, and after that the author just gave up doing it. Which is a bit of a problem when one of your lead's primary strengths is her talent with a sword. This plus just overall terrible writing and pacing makes this an unreadable slog.
