The individual volumes might be expensive but there are copies of the Viz release available online, legal or not legal. There's really no reason to retranslate the full thing. I appreciate your enthusiasm but your time might be better spent elsewhere rather than duplicating 20 year old work
I totally get your point. You’re right that scans of the official translation can be obtained illegally, but in my opinion, it’s just better to have mangas available here on Mangadex, which is a pretty centralized translation site. Besides, I have quite a few issues with that decades-old VIZ edition (missing color pages, double-page spreads that aren’t joined together, a rather questionable translation in a few places, and poorly redrawn speech bubbles to better fit the text). You’re right that anyone who wants to find the manga can already find it illegally online, but another goal of this project is to bring this manga to people’s attention once again, because the series ended a long time ago and doesn’t really have much opportunity to gain new fans
