i understand here more than the first time i read that apollo's racism is spurred by the fact that he didn't try harder to improve (i dont want to follow this angle some ppl are "naturally" stronger, esp in a sports manga that seems redudant to the point: constant improvement, and ESP when its meant to a justification of racism/whatever the fuck) against the guy that joined his team back during his nfl days
its like sakuraba vs sena, one is improving in spite of diffculties and one is not, but we saw that even sakuraba decided to get over his fears and work harder to improve...apollo didn't. i know we see that one panel of him working out in the rain but im still gonna regard him as not doing as much as he could have (i am not playing with even accepting his racist ideals for a second)
apollo also supplements his insecurity by justifying it with racist ideas: "black people are physically stronger than white people"
this is like sakuraba's illusion that shin will always be better than him but just far far worse like if sakuraba suddenly decide all people with black hair suck as a result and started being discriminatory towards them
apollo is a bitch
