it's not a government question but cultural as for a lot of people, ensuring a prosperous descendance is one of the most important side, and when they had the 1 child policy, the obvious for those people was to have a male to ensure that, meaning some people were ready to commit atrocities

Sadly, decades of bad habits prolly stick around though. There seems to be an obsession with having a male heir still in a lot of countries. Eastern hemisphere more so than western, but it also depends on how old-fashioned a westerner is too.

Ask any muslim woman in a muslim country. My friend's parents treat her brother better than her just because he's a man. She's in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Latina women too. Latino parents are always tougher on their daughters than sons. In my fiance's experience at least. It's bizzare how things ended up this way.
