I really like how socially conscious the author is and I do think it's important to have works directly addressing social issues...

It's also important to have works of escapism. You'll just simply burn out if all you're doing is thinking about the world's problems. Being burned out ironically makes it a lot harder to fix them. So just... putting yourself out there is helping the world in its own way.
You guys all will gladly read something like GATE, which has an overpowered army occupy a medieval world and indoctrinate them with Japanese culture, but balk when it comes to social issues being addressed in a manga.
