Ok from the premise I was expecting something dumb but that was pretty good

YOOOOO first real "hit" of the collection imo. This one made me properly creeped out. I think, contextually speaking, it hit so well because of the fact that we generally have a poor understanding of generative AI (unknown = scary), combined with other similar stories such as Loab that have permeated current consciousness.

On a more technical level, there's also a wonderful feeling of tension in uncovering each of the associated 'words', that's something that would've been harder to do with earlier "literal ghost in the literal machine" stories such as with a camera that sees spirits. The tension pushes you forwards into discovery: it's like the story says, don't you want to know what happens at the end? And that's combined with the fear of not knowing what the words are, so if you remain ignorant you could easily accidentally write one in, as the protagonist did. The only way to know what to avoid, is to keep going... (or just stop using image gen)

Overall, just a very well-executed modern take on a classic horror story, that leveraged the relevant new technology in ways that added to the story.

Another good one! Love the AI ghost's mechanic - it's kinda like the "forbidden knowledge" stock trope, but with more random guessing.
