Magic that allows one to get information about anything is a female occupation.... that's so stupid, it is like those that have the guys learning only to fight with a sword because magic is a girly thing.

so if he's learned magic based divination, let's just say, he's drunk, he's mad at all the fluff-brains chasing his fame...suppose he (probably) unintentionally used divination magic as he threw the ring...maybe she isn't just some random guest that got brained, but rather the most suitable partner for him, at least from among those present at the gathering?

@mahtan
it said *as a hobby* it has a primarily feminine following. makes sense, girls always wanna know who's gonna have good health, who's gonna find love, where to find love, who to love, when who or her is gonna have a baby...etc...
BUT it also said those who actually pursue the secrets of the art of divination itself are primarily men.
so the ladies focus on it too much and it gets a stigma among the public, but presumably anyone with the affinity for it can try to learn it, and pursue means to receive more accurate and focused answers...a rather impressive feat to accurately predict even a slightly distant future, considering the further ahead you can see, the more likely the future you saw is to change, aside from natural fluctuations in chance and fate, if multiple people see a future, some may act to ensure it happens, while others act to prevent it, depending on the subject of the future, it may even turn into a full blown war over the outcome

If there is a chance of the "future" saw not happened then you are not seeing the future.
If you had "saw" the future then what was shown would already have taken in consideration any action that would happen because of it. But the divination in this story looks more as warn/riddles on the possibilities of what could happen in the future I just don't know what the magic is using to calculate that possibility and decide what has more chance of happening instead of actually looking into the future, as most "future telling" is even in reality.

But about your reply the story says that males that take to practice divination are ridiculed meaning that males are discouraged from doing it even when it is known that it is useful.
