I'm just going to assume Mom didn't panic or anything about magical creatures clearly absconding with Akane because the cats didn't seem bothered, so the little magical creatures PROBABLY explained to the cats.
She went off of the cats' reactions, and since they weren't immediately trying to stop the kidnapping she figured it was fine to let it happen.

The author seems to feel more and more cramped within the framework of the melancholic SoL and wants to develop the manga to the level of an epic universe with a bunch of characters.
Your general point . . . well, could be, although I suspect it won't go more than sort of a compromise, because on one hand the author seems to really like going for some phantasmagorical images but on the other likes rooting it in the characters and their lives.
I do want to ask one thing though. Melancholic, you said. Uhhh . . . melancholic in what sense? It's always felt fairly cheerful to me.

I was talking about vibes. I can't say anything about the actual intentions of the author. For obvious reasons.
Melancholic in the sense of relaxation and dreaminess. In my eyes, this is a classic "therapeutic" and in a certain sense "realistic" SoL that shows the daily lives of the characters without overusing moe or creating overly comedically silly situations.

Huh, so Akane is working on broadening the amount a witch can meddle with the world. Then she and Makoto are the two witches who will teach the prophesied 'child' who will establish the '10th' form of magic- maybe a magic that non-witches can use? To better broaden the amount of interactions that can be done?

a bunch of chapters back Akane stopped time in basically all of Tokyo.
we already had some pretty wild stuff, but its always presented in such a laid back way that most of it doesn't register as 'wild' (at least not for very long)

She stopped it for the whole world for non-magic users.

Though technically she summoned a high ranking being from another world to do it

Which the way she did it was a long lost technique so it helped her getting somewhat more lenient punishment.

I love the direction of this manga. I hope they introduce even more new worlds. The world building is so good

If it's a fire sabbath, it should happen in a country with (potentially) active volcanoes. Norway hasn't got any. Norway is more like a country of earth and water. So, forget Norway.
by that logic, Japan's gonna win hands down. another good candidate would be Indonesia 😬🇮🇩

Potentially my favourite thing about this series in the clothes; a lot of other series have their characters all in the same outfit/small handful of outfits where this one has them constantly changing it up which makes them feel much more realistic.
