I get the pseudo explanation of how the Merc reconstitute his body, but how about his personality, memories and thought pattern? How does the reconstitution process carry those brain cell/neurons from the old body to a new one?

Studies have shown that butterflies and moths retain memories from when they were caterpillars. Mind you in the process of developing into their adult forms they will digest themselves in their chrysalis with only a few stem cells surviving the process which then use the biomass as fuel for development and growth.

Though a human brain is orders of magnitude more massive and complex the same phenomenon that saves these memories may be in play.
